Sony has been hard at work to boost sales of its PS5 consoles after they were restocked earlier this year after a shortage of more than two years. Sony has maintained its dominant position in the console market despite tough competition from Xbox with its two variants.

The company launched several new console styles and one new version of the console to attract gamers and it seems to have paid off very well. A new report has now stated that more than 40,000 PlayStation 5 consoles are being sold per day.

According to new data collected by Finbold, a website that covers financial news, an average of 1,238,109 units of PS5 have been sold per month as of October. The highest monthly sales for the console were in March with 1,898,817 PlayStation 5 units and the lowest monthly sales were at 1,221,162 units in April and that is still impressive.

But that’s not all. What’s more impressive is that the monthly sales averaged 285,718 PlayStation 5 units sold per week, 40,705 PlayStation 5 units sold per day, and 1,696 units sold on an hourly basis. The collected data is from sales around the world and clearly explains the demand for the console and Sony hasn’t left any stone unturned to satisfy its users.

PS5 was scarcely available for the first two years after its launch and the demand was so high that many put the consoles on sale for more than ten times the usual. The supply volumes were affected by the pandemic due to the global chip shortage and supply chain issues, causing Sony to bring changes to its strategy and it even had to port PS5-exclusive titles to PS4.

Sony finally restocked the PlayStation 5 in 2023 and stated that it would be easy for anyone to get a PS5. Later PlayStation 5 was almost available at every online and offline retailer. Sony made more efforts and recently stated that the PS5 console is fully restocked everywhere around the world. This marks the first time that PlayStation 5 is available everywhere and that too during the holiday season. Eric Lempel, Sony’s head of business operations said in an exclusive interview with CNBC:

This holiday season is the first holiday season we will be fully stocked on PlayStation 5 in every geography.

The main reason behind Sony selling PS5 consoles in such large quantities is the price reduction all around the globe which has allowed many to get a PlayStation 5 for much less than the launch price. Other than that Sony also gave gamers a little flexibility to customize their consoles as it introduced the Deep Earth Collection at the State of Play in September this year featuring three new colors, Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue, and Sterling Silver for the console covers and DualSense wireless controller.

Sony recently announced a new "slim" version of the PS5 console.

Sony also recently launched a new slim version of the PS5 console but although it is slim, it is weirdly not called PS5 Slim. The new console comes with a detachable Ultra HD Blu-ray disk drive, reduced weight, and 1 TB SSD instead of the usual 825 GB but features the same specifications as the original PS5 console. However, the console still appealed to gamers with less space on their hands and ones looking for a more compact console.

Sony also introduced a new bundle for its latest PlayStation 5 exclusive title Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 with a limited-edition console and the game code. The game was very well received by fans and critics alike. A new PS5 bundle was also released for the latest Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3.

Despite facing severe competition from Microsoft’s Xbox and other handheld consoles, Sony PlayStation has maintained its dominance in the market and will probably keep doing so with some of the best games ever under its belt.
