When you are filming something as serious and intense as The Hunger Games, there are only so many ways you can make the experience fun. You better grab onto every opportunity you’re gonna get to make that experience unforgettable, and Jennifer Lawrence sure got the memo.
From giving her co-star a mild concussion to almost injuring her spleen, Jennifer Lawrence brought home a ton of unusual memories from the sets of The Hunger Games franchise. However, one particular moment seems to be fresh in the minds of her co-stars. After all, who in their right mind would forget what it’s like kissing Jennifer Lawrence? The memories might not be too pleasant for Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson, though. Let’s just say there’s a lot of mustard involved in the anecdote!
Jennifer Lawrence Kissed Her Co-Stars with Bad Breath
A minty fresh breath is probably the top-most requirement for a good kiss. However, Jennifer Lawrence took it upon herself to torture her The Hunger Games co-stars, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth. During his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Hemsworth stated that his kisses with Lawrence were memorable for all the wrong reasons! Talking about what scene was the most awkward to film, Hemsworth stated,
“Anytime I had to kiss Jennifer, it was pretty uncomfortable. She’s one of my best friends, I love her. But, if we had a kissing scene, she would make a point of eating garlic or tuna fish or something that was so disgusting. Right before the scene, she’d be like, ‘Yeah, I had tuna’ or ‘I had garlic, and I didn’t brush my teeth.’ And I’d be like, ‘Fantastic, I can’t wait to get in there and taste it!’”
Yikes! The Passengers actress didn’t feel the need to deny the claim as she very proudly confirmed the story on The Graham Norton Show.
“When I had to kiss Josh [Hutcherson] and Liam in The Hunger Games, I was like, ‘Who cares?’ and I’d eat mustard and tuna.”
It looks like Lawrence was out to get the boys, especially Hutcherson, who was knocked out cold after the actress tried to kick over his head and ended up hitting her heel on his head, instead. The Little Manhattan actor recalled waking up with a mild concussion and a crying Lawrence on top of him.
However, it’s not like they didn’t have fun! The three leads bonded over the four movies where they got absolutely close-knitted with each other. Lawrence even recalled to The New York Times how she and “the boys” would go back to their hotels after red-carpet events to “drink whiskey” and “get stoned.” They sure made some amazing memories together!
Jennifer Lawrence Didn’t Pull This Off with Other Co-Stars
Hutcherson and Hemsworth were the only ones who got to kiss tuna-breath Lawrence, as she refrained from pulling any such stunts with her other co-actors. On The Graham Norton Show, Lawrence clarified that during the filming of American Hustle, she would make sure to eat lots of mints before doing a kissing scene with Christian Bale. She stated,
“And then I did American Hustle with Christian Bale and I was like, Oh damn.’ And I was really clean and ate lots and lots of mints.”
She clarified that even Chris Pratt didn’t suffer the same fate as her The Hunger Games co-stars as she stated, “With Pratt, I definitely ate mints.” Well, there’s no way we are looking at The Hunger Games kisses the same way as before!
