Warner Bros. Discovery is jumping on the Middle Earth bandwagon again as the company reveals the next Lord of the Rings project. The fans must not expect the film in 2026, according to the announcement. Hopefully, it won’t get delayed. The story will roam around the stinky Ring enthusiast Gollum.

Peter Jackson, creator of the original LoTR trilogy, along with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, have joined the production and “will be involved every step of the way,” as per David Zaslav, WBD CEO. Details about the project also highlight that they won’t be revisiting the existing storylines but exploring what is yet to be told from Professor Tolkien’s mythology.

The Next Lord of The Rings Film Should do Some Good For The Ring Enthusiast

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was never an AAA game.

We never liked Gollum, but that’s the way the character was created and he was supposed to be like this. But we cannot hate the actor who played the creature, Andy Serkis. Interestingly, he is reprising his role while also taking care of the film’s direction. As of now, the working title of the film is said to be ‘Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.’

As of now, he remains the only official cast member for the upcoming movie, but we can speculate who might be making the return. Kate Blanchett, for one, could return as Galadriel, as the story will follow the hunt for the creature carried out by the Elf at the behest of Gandalf the Grey. Speaking of which, Sir Ian McKellen’s is highly likely to make the return if the wizard is to play the part.

We may see more familiar faces in the film, which may make it a worthwhile watch. To this end, the film should remove one stain from the franchise left by Daedalic Entertainment’s LoTR game. In our review of the game, we rated it one out of ten for squandering the precious LoTR IP.

The ‘AAA’ Game Was Destined to be a Disaster From The Beginning

Daedalic Entertainment’s game might be the only thing that the LoTR community despises today. Only 4 percent of the critics recommend the game, according to the review aggregation website OpenCritic. Following the disaster, the developer hung a lock on the division and canceled plans for a sequel.

However, if we go by the reports, the poor state of the game was a result of a toxic work environment caused by toxic leadership. Moreover, the project reportedly had a budget of around €15 million, which may not be sufficient to develop an AAA game.

As for the upcoming movie, it is unlikely that it will face such a disastrous turn of events. All the film and TV adaptations have been well received by the fans, and the same is likely to be the case with the next LoTR movie.
