Angelina Jolie, known for her involvement in massive franchising including, Lara Croft, often picks movies for personal reasons. From travel to performing her own stunts, these conditions set the Academy Award-winning actress apart from the rest of the A-listers. While some movies are just made to cash in star power, Angie decided to take up Jonny Depp’s film, because directors cannot say no to her conditions if they want to cash in Jolie.
Angelina Jolie Got Lured By The Quick Shoot In Italy
During an interview with Vogue Magazine, Angelina Jolie admitted that she only chose to work in Johnny Depp‘sThe Tourist (2010), because she knew “it would be a quick shoot” in Venice, Italy. While Hollywood directors are aware that Angie loves traveling, one of the reasons she picks up most films, the actress thought the movie would serve as an excuse for a nice vacation.
The Original Sin actress confessed:
“I was looking for a very short thing to do before Brad started filming [Moneyball]. And I said I needed something that shoots not too long, in a nice location for my family. Somebody said there’s a script that’s been around, and it shoots in Venice and Paris. And I said, ‘Is it a character I haven’t played before?’ And they said, ‘Yes, it’s a lady.’”
The Tourist managed to gross a whopping $278 million at the worldwide box office but was met with negative reception by critics. Jolie still called the experience “blissful”, which was her plan for taking up the movie.
The Movie’s Plot Didn’t Shine, Johnny Depp’s Teeth Did!
In the Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck-directed movie, Angelina Jolie plays the role of Elise Clifton-Ward, which was initially meant to be played by Mad Max: Fury Road actress, Charlize Theron. Johnny Depp, on the other hand, plays spy-fiction fan, Frank Tupelo, who gets lured by Elise’s web of “international crime and intrigue”.
Even though the movie was criticized for its “slow, muddled plot”, Angelina Jolie referred to Depp as a brilliant actor, who had already gained the status of. a mega-star with Pirates of the Caribbean films. But again, despite their gala time on the set, Jolie gave him a hard time, forcing him every time to rinse his mouth before a kissing scene.
Depp, who is a chain smoker (something that Jolie condemns), was asked to wash his mouth multiple times and was offered mints by Angie. Despite Depp’s efforts, their chemistry couldn’t rock on screen.
