Angelina Jolie Was The Inspiration For Elena In The Vampire Diaries!
While there might have been a lot of films in the past that Angelina Jolie used to radiate her name across the industry through her stellar performances, she is also widely known as one of the few female action stars thanks to a long list of films that she has portrayed the character of a bada*s woman for. Thus, it’s no surprise to know that along the way, her action-filled persona inspired Nina Dobrev to mold her character of Elena Gilbert around her in The Vampire Diaries.

In 2011, Dobrev was on the Television Critics Association panel with several other stars from The CW, where they talked about how empowering women in television and entertainment paved the way for more female stars to follow in their greatness. She also cited the importance of the Maleficent star in shaping her character in the show, who had to raise her fists in the series every now and then. During the panel, she revealed that Jolie’s action persona was an inspiration for her, saying:
“I think watching Angelina Jolie movies is always kind of inspiring and awesome. Some of us get to do it depending on the episode but it is really cool. Like, I remember watching Tomb Raider, and there’s this woman who’s, like, beating up all of the guys. It does feel very empowering.”
Thanks to her roles in films like the Tomb Raider series, Salt, and Gone in 60 Seconds to name a few, Jolie’s image developed in the industry for showcasing a woman who is not to be trifled with.

Thus, after taking the role of Thena in Eternals, the star has made selective choices to play the characters she is offered. Apart from her role in the MCU, Jolie has also been involved in projects like Unreasonable Behaviour and The Kept to name a few.
