Stray was one of the biggest games of the year 2022.

Recently, the Annapurna Animation Studio had great success with their first feature film on Netflix, Nimona, and they were happy with the response it received from fans. This has led Annapurna to look towards a more complicated story to tell, which has made them set their eyes on Stray, with its unique story they can’t wait to know through the form of film.

When looking for something to adapt into a film, the team at Annapurna Animation Studios was drawn to Stray, as it was one of the most popular games back in 2022. It had such a unique view of the world as the Annapurna animation Boss Robert Baird said,

This is a game that’s all about what makes us human, and there are no humans in it,

When talking about Stray and its adaptation film, it was described as, “…a buddy comedy about a cat and a robot, and there’s such a hilarious dynamic. So, there’s comedy inherent in this, but there’s not one human being in this movie.” This is a good sign for the future of this feature film as the Animation Studio seems like it will remain faithful to what we saw throughout Stray. It will still have some form of comedy aspects, even if it is more visual acting rather than vocal.

What Will be the Most Difficult Part of Creating This Stray Adaptation Film?

Annapurna intends to adapt Stray into a film.

For those among us who have played Stray and have completed the story, we know what will happen and how it all plays out. But how will this story come together in a feature film? When talking about the Stray adaptation, the Annapurna Animation Studio has said it will be a complicated story to tell, as they try to stay faithful to what the game was famous for, the point of view of a cat.

One of the main issues with this film adaptation the Animation Studio may fall into is being able to fully include everything that was a part of the Stray story. There were a lot of stories to see and a lot to explore, and understandably a lot of the exploration will be ignored. But to create a film based on such a unique game will always have its issues when keeping the story on the same lines as its source material.

When talking about the Stray adaptation, Robert Baird also said,

I think it’s one of the reasons why the game was incredibly popular, that you are seeing the world through the point of view of an adorable cat. How did they pull that off, and how are we going to pull that off in the movie?

This shows they know it will be a challenge for their studio to accomplish, but they acknowledge they have the intent to try and follow the source material and its point of view.

So far, there is no release date announced for this Stray film adaptation, but for those who cannot wait, Stray is still available as a game on all platforms. What do you think about this news regarding a Stray feature film? Is it something you would want to watch, or were you content with the game? Let us know what you think in the comments.
