Anne Hathaway Couldn’t Stand A Childbirth Scene In Knocked Up

Anne Hathaway revealed in a previous interview that she regrets turning down Judd Apatow’s Knocked Up, the hit 2007 romcom that grossed $219 million worldwide. What’s weird is the reason behind turning down the role of Alison Scott as the actress couldn’t wrap her mind around one particular birth scene.

DCU’s Catwoman, who went on to star in her highest-grossing film, The Dark Knight Rises, revealed that she hadn’t experienced motherhood back then, and wasn’t sure about how she was going to feel on the “other side about giving birth”. Hathaway said as she giggled along:

 “My issue with it was that having not experienced motherhood myself, I didn’t know how I was gonna feel on the other side about giving birth. And by the way, “I could pop a kid out and think, Oh, well, I really should have done that movie.”

Alison Scott’s role was passed on to Katherine Heigl, who starred alongside MCU’s Ant-Man, Paul Rudd. While Hathaway gave away one of the biggest films of 2007 whilst issue with the graphic imagery of childbirth, Katherine Heigl became a major Hollywood power player after this role.

Real-life Motherhood Changed Anne Hathaway’s Perspective

Anne Hathaway may have given up films like Knocked Up, but she surely got her name on the A-listers of Hollywood. Since Ang Lee’s 2001 hit, Brokeback Mountain, a movie wherein Hathaway initially questioned her acting skills, Hathaway’s career skyrocketed to new heights.

The Devil Wears Prada star went on to star alongside her co-star from the 2001 movie, Jake Gyllenhall in the $103 million Love and Other Drugs. For her role in, Rachel Getting Married, the latter got her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. Hathaway took home an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Tom Hooper’s Les Misérables.

Despite all the stardom, the actress has always expressed second thoughts about her acting career. During a previous interview, Hathaway expressed that the day “I feel like I know what I’m doing and I have nothing left to learn is the day that I should do something else.” She revealed that there is an opportunity everywhere to learn and grow.

Coming back to her regret for Knocked Up, one reason why the actress may regret this decision, even more, is that she turned out to be absolutely perfect when it comes to motherhood. The actress, who is married to Adam Shulman since 2012, took a small hiatus from acting since she gave birth to two children. She loves to spend time with her family and focus on her personal life.
