Anne Hathaway is an artist for all seasons. Being a talented singer and actor, the star has showcased her skills in multiple films genres from dramas, to romantic comedies, to musicals. Her brilliant performance as Fantine in the musical tragedy Les Miserables won her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. With her presence in films like The Devil Wears Prada, Rachel Getting Married, and The Dark Knight Rises, Hathaway has proved that no role is out of her grasp.
Interestingly, the Interstellar star has also made some surprising decisions to let go of meaty roles despite being the first choice for the character. Hathaway was originally approached to be the protagonist in David O. Russell’s Oscar-winning Silver Linings Playbook, a part that ultimately went to Jennifer Lawrence.
Why Did Anne Hathaway Reject Silver Linings Playbook?
Over the years, Hollywood star Anne Hathaway has made some smart and powerful choices in films that have gone on to become big hits as well as earning her lots of praise and recognition. But the Dark Waters actor has also let go of a few prestigious projects. Hathaway was originally considered by director David O. Russell to play the lead role of Tiffany Maxwell in the romantic drama Silver Linings Playbook along with Mark Wahlberg.
The parts were ultimately portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper with Lawrence’s intense performance earning her an Oscar for Best Actress in Leading Role. The film also went on to win awards in multiple categories. Hathaway’s reasons for refusing the film are still unclear except that she reportedly had creative differences with the filmmaker. Despite losing out on a massive project and a potential award, the star made up for it by winning the Oscar for her performance in Les Miserables the same year.
Anne Hathaway Dreaded Kissing Scenes
Les Miserables star Anne Hathaway is an actor with oodles of talent which is very evident through her performances. But The Intern star confessed that enacting kissing scenes was not her forte. Despite having a technique and routine on set to master the intimate lip-locking scenes, Hathaway admitted that none of her hacks really made her feel comfortable enough to appear natural on screen. The celebrity praised her Hollywood counterpart Angelina Jolie for being able to seamlessly perform kissing segments in her films. Hathaway said,
“It’s a totally different experience. But really you really have to be Angelina Jolie to pull that off and still look good. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I ain’t no Angie.”
Anne Hathaway was also extremely appreciative of another big Hollywood star Jennifer Garner whom she felt, was able to organically ease into an intimate scene and make it fun.
