Ten years after the original game’s release, fans of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag are finally getting a sequel in the form of a WEBTOON series, aptly named Assassin’s Creed: Forgotten Temple. Spanning 150 episodes through three seasons, Ubisoft will have Edward Kenway finding all of the Pieces of Eden while travelling the historically accurate coasts of Southeast Asia.

The treasure was left by Those Who Came Before and the Templars arent the only ones after it. Also, fans will be introduced to a Korean American descendant of Edward’s whose name is Noa Kim. In fact most of the series will be about Noa, chronicling his abduction by Abstergo Industries. After being captured, he is forced to relive his genetic memories in order to further the Templar’s goals.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, the sixth installment of the popular ongoing series, followed the story of Welsh pirate Edward Kenway, an employee of Abstergo Industries. He was tasked with gathering material for an Animus powered interactive feature film, but was instead manipulated into uncovering the secrets of the Assassin-Templar War.

Set in the West Indies during the the Golden Age of Piracy from 1715 to 1722, the game mostly focused on open world ship exploration. Also, there were still a lot of city based missions to collect as well as melee and stealth based combat. The proposed naval combat sequel, Skull and Bones, is unfortunately still in delay. And the remake of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag is in the earliest stages of development, according to leaks.

Though not a game, Ubisoft is assuring fans that this is still a direct sequel. “We are thrilled to expand the Assassin’s Creed series to WEBTOON thanks to this amazing collaboration with WEBTOON and REDICE STUDIO,” said Julien Fabre Ubisoft’s director of global TV and transmedia business development. “We’ve been working hard with the talented folks at REDICE to craft this original Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag sequel and hope that existing fans and new readers will enjoy it.”

While some may be disappointed that it is not a full game, it is still a lot to consider that Ubisoft is adding new content. The artwork, handled by Korean artist Tabii, is phenomenal. And REDICE has handled multimillion view projects before, such as SoloLeveling, I‘m the Max Level Newbie and The Archmage Returns After 4000 Years. If this does well, who knows what other WEBTOON sequels we will see? Also, fans of Edward Kenway will be ecstatic to revisit the Black Flag world and expand on the existing lore.

The first six episodes of Forgotten Temple began rolling out on April 24, 2023, and new episodes have been released weekly on the WEBTOON website. Dive in now and catch up.
