Robert Pattinson is undeniably one of the premier actors in the world, showcasing significant growth in his career. Despite a challenging start, he has evolved and demonstrated his versatility through a diverse range of roles over the years. That said, Mark Ruffalo also revealed a nasty role in Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17 which also stars Robert Pattinson.
On the other hand, Mark Ruffalo is also one of the most prominent actors in Hollywood, celebrated for his roles in iconic movies such as Shutter Island, Now You See Me, and Zodiac. However, he has achieved widespread recognition and fame for his portrayal of The Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His journey as The Hulk commenced with 2012’s The Avengers and has extended through various MCU movies, including the spinoff She-Hulk.
Mark Ruffalo Is Playing A Very ‘Nasty’ Role In Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17
Poor Things starred Emma Stone as Bella Baxter and Mark Ruffalo as Duncan Wedderburn, in what was touted as a genre-defining black comedy. It even helped Ruffalo get nominated for a Golden Globe this month. His character in the film was also a crazed man and categorically described as a ‘bad guy.’
While speaking to Deadline at the BAFTA Tea Party, Mark Ruffalo talked about portraying an antagonistic role in Poor Things. He would then talk about his role in Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17, describing it as nasty and admitting that he was playing another ”f*cking psychopath” again.
“This guy’s like a nasty dictator, fascist, narcissist; we know the type. He’s as bad as any of these a**holes running around today.”
Mickey 17 also features Robert Pattinson and the highly anticipated film will release in US theaters on March 29th. We will have to wait and see whether the film will end up becoming a major success, as Ruffalo is clearly on a roll lately.
Mark Ruffalo Tried To Talk His Way Out Of Poor Things
In a recent roundtable discussion with The Hollywood Reporter, Mark Ruffalo shared his initial hesitations about his role as Wedderburn in Poor Things. Feeling that it might be too challenging for him, Ruffalo attempted to dissuade director Yorgos Lanthimos from casting him. Despite expressing his concerns and emphasizing that he hadn’t played a character like that before, Lanthimos simply laughed off Ruffalo’s reservations. Eventually, Ruffalo embraced the role in the film.
“Yeah! I was like, “Yorgos, I don’t think I’m the right person for this.” I tried to talk him out of it, and he just laughed at me. In the movie business, you start to feel like you’re in a box sometimes. I had never played anything like that, and I was scared. I mean, I saw his earlier movies and was in awe of them, but he just laughed at me. So I was like, ‘OK …’”
Despite Mark Ruffalo’s initial confusion and attempts to convince director Yorgos Lanthimos that he wasn’t the right fit for the role in Poor Things, the director may have seen something in Ruffalo that he didn’t recognize in himself. Released in early December, the film received an overwhelming response from fans and went on to win two Golden Globes at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards.
