Game Pass received its first ever price increase back in June when the standard price was raised from $9.99 to $10.99 and the ultimate Game Pass price was increased from $14.99 to $16.99. During a recent interview with Phil Spencer it has been announced that it is ultimately inevitable that the subscription service will receive another price increase sometime in the future.

Phil Spencer announces a price increase for Game Pass is ultimately inevitable.

When it comes to any form of live service like Game Pass it won’t come as a shock to fans when there is a price increase as this service is quite important and effective for gamers to enjoy games at a reasonable price. With that said, sometime in the future this price will more than likely increase especially as more games are added to the Xbox console.

The main reason that Game Pass will most likely be receiving a price increase is because sometime in the future there will be more games released to Xbox. This is because there are plans for Xbox to obtain more Japan based games on its console which will inevitably cause the Game Pass price to increase as more games could possibly become day one releases on Game Pass or discounted.

As Microsoft are now acquiring more studios like Activison Blizzard this would mean that more games will be coming to Microsoft and will become Xbox exclusive which in turn will cause a major price increase over time for Game Pass. Although, it should also encourage more gamers to buy a subscription to the service and enjoy the vast amount of games that are in it’s library.

Is Phil Spencer Happy With This Price Increase?

Players show both outrage and happiness at this price increase.

When it comes to price increases it is highly unlikely that a game company is pleased with the decision to increase the price of their live services as it can put off many of their users as evident by Sony and its decision to increase the price of PlayStation plus which led to many gamers cancelling their subscriptions.

During the interview with Phil Spencer and Game Watch the price increase was discussed and during this interview Phil Spencer did mention that even though this decision was made after careful consideration, that they would ultimately prefer for customers to gain more value for what they pay for, but as they obtain more games and titles it will cause a larger price increase.

So far, there has been no mention as to when we can expect the price increase to Game Pass whether it will be this year or next year, but as Xbox obtain more studios and first-party games it will most likely cause the prices to increase. At the moment there are still some unannounced Japan-based games to release which could potentially increase the price for Game pass.

For now players can enjoy the still quite low price of the service that is still available until the price increase that is inevitably on it’s way sometime in the future. Although, with the current acquisitions and more unannounced games coming, it will likely be worth the price increase.
