It brought into question what the future of the character might look like. While Captain America: New World Order is already in the works, the question of whether or not Sam Wilson would follow Steve Rogers’ footsteps was raised.

Mackie even addressed the stance that his character would have as a leader in a team that would be semi-broken. The comparison between the two heroes is often made because Wilson is a great legacy. “Remember, he’s a counselor and he’s a regular guy who just happened to become an Avenger. There’s no superpowers, there’s no super-suit, there’s no super-serum. He’s just a guy. I love the idea of him moving through life as Captain America, as someone who brings peace and change instead of destruction and physical force.”

Unlike Evans, his version of the hero has no superpowers and fights with a lot of people much stronger than him. His sheer will and determination are enough for him to be able to face the most formidable of foes. While Steve Rogers still had his powers and super strength to back him up, Wilson does not have any of that. This makes his character much stronger than Evans’ emotionally if not physically.

He admitted to the fact that sometimes the enemies can be strong enough for there to not be a possibility for someone without superpowers to go up against them as a leader. This only became more concrete when reports of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man leading the heroes in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty started appearing. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will be available to watch on 2nd May 2025.
