His directorial, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was widely praised for all its elements in the film However, the film was also hit with negative criticism which he addressed while shading the late actor in the film.

While the 2019 film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood won fans’ hearts in all aspects, it also provided fans with a major fighting sequence revolving around Bruce Lee.

There was a much controversial scene in the film which saw Mike Moh’s Lee challenging stuntman Cliff Booth played by the character, Brad Pitt. The fighting scene garnered much attention with Lee’s daughter, Sharon Lee in an interview shared how her father’s portrayal in the film was wrong on several grounds as he was shown “a**hole” in the film.

During a Joe Rogan Experience podcast in 2019, he addressed the concerns stating,

“I can understand his daughter having a problem with it. It’s her f**king father. I get that, but anybody else, go suck a d*ck.”

He further added that the late actor had a bad reputation in the industry, especially with stuntmen as he shared,

“Bruce had nothing but disrespect for stuntmen and he was always hitting them. He was always hitting them with his feet.”

Due to his constant hits, stuntmen even refused to work with him. While many thought that the fighting scene was indeed shading Lee, it would have been for a long duration had Brad Pitt not stepped into it.

The face-off with the martial artist legend, portrayed by Moh and Pitt was supposed to have run for a long duration that the actual timeline. However, it was the Bullet Train star who was not aligned with Quentino’s vision in that scene.

As per Huffpost, Booth would have used a cheap trick to win over the late actor’s character. But, Pitt along with co-stunt coordinator, Robert Alonzo was against the idea.

The stunt coordinator stated,

“I know that Brad had expressed his concerns, and we all had concerns about Bruce losing. Especially for me, as someone who has looked up to Bruce Lee as an icon, not only in the martial arts realm but in the way he approached philosophy and life, to see your idol be beaten is very disheartening.

They were not ready to accept to accept their icon’s defeat who eventually heavy-heartedly filmed the scene. Despite the controversy, the film garnered positive responses from critics and grossed $374 million worldwide.
