Having a best friend like Samuel L. Jackson sounds amazing, doesn’t it? Because of his infectious personality and incredible acting abilities, he seems like the ideal friend. That being said, Brie Larson once discussed an unexpected challenge she faced as the Academy Honorary Award-winning actor’s best friend.
Well, it turns out that Jackson’s mastery of emojis, combined with his anxiety when not receiving prompt replies, can make texting an interesting experience for Larson.
We think that everyone would like to be friends with their coworkers in the same way that Larson and Jackson are. After working together on the 2017 monster movie Kong: Skull Island, they went on to collaborate on five more movies over the next six years. The two enjoy discussing one another and their bond; they have been transparent about how close they have become over time.
Having Samuel L. Jackson as a Best Friend is Difficult for Brie Larson At Times?
Who is not fond of emojis? We can express ourselves creatively and enjoyably because they give our messages more color and emotion. But Samuel L. Jackson takes the use of emojis to a whole new level. Brie Larson said that the Iron Man actor has become an expert at using emojis to express his feelings, whether they are roaring laughter or an intense expression.
Jackson’s emoji-filled texts often inundate Larson’s phone, making it difficult to resist grinning. During one of her earlier visits to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the actress said:
“My bestie… Yeah, we’re best friends. Soulmates, really. I know it’s surprising everybody. Including us. It’s true though. He is really big on emojis.”
Jimmy Fallon then asked Larson to elaborate on his emoji obsession, to which she responded:
“Oh well of course! He’s really big on emojis, I can say that. And he’s also the person that will send me like videos of people falling and videos of corgis in undertows going down the river, you know. And if I don’t respond quick enough, he’d be like, ‘Are you okay?’”
By the time Captain Marvel production began, the two had already gotten along well and had collaborated on multiple films. It even somewhat improved their on-screen chemistry. That is, at least, what Jackson himself said, having disclosed in a 2019 interview with IndieWire how he truly feels about his bond with Larson:
“We know each other very well. We do better back and forth, we do laugh easily between the two of us.”
Samuel L. Jackson: Brie Larson is Stronger Than Most ‘People Give Her Credit For’
Samuel L. Jackson is all praise for his friend and co-star, Brie Larson. He talked with Rolling Stone about his career and how, while working on the set of Kong: Skull Island in 2017, he and Larson grew close:
“Brie’s a stronger person than people give her credit for.”
According to Jackson, working on that movie was “not the most wonderful experience for either of us”, as he told the outlet:
“We became great friends during that particular experience because we were having such a hard time. Then, we bonded through the election while we were doing her movie when Donald Trump won [the 2016 US presidential election].”
Meanwhile, Larson revealed to EW that her favorite Oscar memory was sharing the stage with the Unbreakable star to present Best Adapted Screenplay in 2019:
“Sam is just my soulmate on this Earth, and so anytime I get to spend time with him and do anything with him is something I treasure deeply..”
On the work front, Jackson and Larson were recently seen reuniting in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the release of The Marvels, which is in theaters starting Nov. 10. As part of Phase Five of the MCU, The Marvels already premiered in Las Vegas on November 7, 2023.
