Arnold Schwarzenegger talked with Michael Ironside’s sister on the phone

Arnold Schwarzenegger appeared in the science fiction movie, Total Recall in which he portrayed the role of Douglas Quaid alongside Micheal Ironside who portrayed the role of Richter in the movie. During the movie’s filming, Ironside’s sister who lived in Canada had reportedly gotten a big infection and had a bowel lesion tear. During the 30-year anniversary of the film, Michael Ironside talked about how Schwarzenegger just noticed one day how the actor was constantly on the phone between takes and looked worried. Therefore, the Terminator actor approached him and asked him about what the matter was. Ironside said,

“We called the hospital and she was like, ‘are you alright?’ She was very dodgy. She had a massive infection and she had a bowel lesion tear and peritonitis in her lower bowel. It was a mess. I said, ‘Somebody wants to talk to you, it’s Arnold’ and she said, ‘Schwarzenegger?’ And he goes, ”Wendy, you have got to look after yourself, your brother loves you very much.'”

The Commando actor used to regularly check in on Michael Ironside’s sister’s health

Michael Ironside further talked about the situation and revealed that he got very emotional after the call and he hugged Arnold Schwarzenegger. He further added,

“That’s not bullsh*t. You know what I found out? I found out from Wendy two weeks later, he called her four or five times over the next week on his own. ‘Hey, how you doing? Are they taking good care of you?…Remember your body’s connected to this, you got to think positively.’ He calling my sister and giving her fu*king pep talks when her life was the line. That’s who he is.”

Despite the troubled mental state of Michael Ironside while filming Total Recall, the actor did a phenomenal job in his portrayal of Richter. The movie was a massive critical and commercial success at the box office as it went on to gross almost $261 million against a production budget of $80 million.
