Emily Bett Rickards and Stephen Amell (the two long-time collaborators known from Arrow) are teaming up again in Calamity Jane. Rickards takes on the titular role, portraying the real-life frontierswoman and sharpshooter from the American Old West—who became legendary in the late 19th century.

Meanwhile, long-haired Amell takes on the role of Wild Bill Hickok, another folk hero from that time. In this version of Calamity Jane, the story centers on what happens after Wild Bill Hickok’s murder.

“After Wild Bill (Amell) is killed in a poker game, Calamity Jane (Rickards) must break out of prison and seek revenge,” reads the official synopsis. Her mission is hindered by Sheriff Mason (Tim Rozon from Schitt’s Creek), Deadwood’s lawman, who aims to capture her.

Stephen Amell and Emily Bett Rickards are reuniting in the revenge Western movie Calamity Jane. They’re back on screen as lovers, ready to bring some Arrowverse love back to the screen.

Rickards and Amell played Felicity Smoak (Overwatch) and Oliver Queen (Green Arrow) on The CW’s Arrow from 2012 to 2020. The successful Arrowverse series led to spinoffs like The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning, and Batwoman.

The trailer posted by Samuel Goldwyn Films introduces Rickards as the legendary sharpshooter Calamity Jane from the 19th century, with Amell sporting another interesting wig as Wild Bill Hickok—her love.

Similar to the final season of Arrow, Rickards’ character copes with the shocking death of Amell’s character. The film, directed by Terry Miles, also stars Priscilla Faia, Gage Marsh, Garrett Black, Christian Sloan, Troy Mundle, and Spencer Borgeson.

Various actresses have portrayed Calamity Jane, with Doris Day notably playing her in a 1953 Oscar-winning musical. Other actresses—Jean Arthur, Ellen Barkin, Angelica Huston, Catherine O’Hara, and Robin Weigert, have also taken on the role of this historical figure.
