Helldivers 2 was well-loved at launch, but there were also complaints. Much of it came from glitches and bugs that many have come to expect from modern-day games. Fixing these issues after launch has become a common practice among studios, but it doesn’t always work out.

Many developers turn to the player stats they can get from their games to better understand in-game trends and spot any possible bugs. But this isn’t always the best method to adopt, and fans of the game are now expressing dissatisfaction with this approach.

Statistics are a great way for developers to understand how players interact with their game and what trends are skewing in which direction. However, taking the numbers at face value can sometimes misrepresent reality, something Helldivers 2 fans have pointed out with recent decisions.

In a message on Discord, Shams Jorjani, the CEO of the studio, said that the Breaker Incendiary was becoming a meta weapon in many Terminid sessions. This has made it one of the many weapons nerfed in the recent Escalation of Freedom update. It’s a frustrating outcome, given that hopes were so high for this update, and users are expressing their annoyance.

Reddit user Still-Negotiation-11 states that the developers should not rely on raw stats when choosing which weapon to nerf. This has led to several fan-favorite armaments getting their effectiveness reduced, and the OP claims it’s starting to feel “scummy.”

While some guns get overused because they are OP, others simply have a wide range of applications. So the OP says the developers should have a blacklist of weapons that are commonly used to avoid nerfing them.

One reply to the post states that repeated nerfing leads people to use the few effective guns left in the game, thus creating another meta and resetting the cycle.

Another states that they wish the developers would first discuss the move instead of doing so after the community speaks out against it.

The new Helldiver 2 patch was intended to fight against the wave of criticism levied against the game, but it seems to have done the opposite.

With the new Freedom’s Flame Warbond now on the horizon, one would expect the developers to place a special spotlight on all the incendiary weapons in the game. Sadly, the Helldivers 2 flamethrower has been nerfed with the Escalation of Freedom update, resulting in fans speaking out about the decision.

The Escalation of Freedom update was meant to bring player snacks to the game with new modes, enemies, and an entirely new difficulty level. Unfortunately, the developers had not informed the fans beforehand of the various nerfs that were going to be introduced as well.

Several technical bugs and issues must be worked through for the game experience to remain smooth. Players have been asking for these fixes for a while, and some are yet to be addressed.
