Last year, Dwayne Johnson headlined in Warner Bros.’s DC Universe movie Black Adam. Despite being highly anticipated, the film failed tremendously at the box office. As James Gunn took over as the new leader of the DC Universe, Johnson’s highly anticipated sequel was ultimately scrapped.
In addition to his recent movie setback, Dwayne Johnson is facing a serious legal issue as he has been named a defendant in a $3 billion lawsuit that has moved forward in the court system. The lawsuit, filed by Trenesha Biggers (Rhaka Khan during her wrestling career), accuses Johnson and several others of kidnapping her and her children during her time at TNA and WWE.
Amidst all the recent controversies involving Dwayne Johnson, a new report suggests that he won’t replace Johnny Depp in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean film. While neither Disney nor Johnson has confirmed this news, it’s speculated that the decision is unrelated to the ongoing lawsuit against the actor.
Is Johnny Depp Returning To The Franchise
Despite no official confirmation, there seems to be little eagerness for a Johnny Depp and Disney reunion. It’s not impossible for them to reconcile and work together on another Pirates of the Caribbean film, but they’re at a significant impasse. Unfortunately, it may be a long time before Depp is able to make a comeback in Hollywood.
The Dwayne Johnson lawsuit involves a wide range of defendants, including law enforcement agencies like The NYPD and The Las Cruces, as well as companies such as Bank of America and Home Depot. Even fraternities like Sigma Phi Epsilon and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. are named in the lawsuit.
Dwayne Johnson’s decision not to join the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise probably has nothing to do with the lawsuit but rather due to his involvement in several other Disney projects. Johnson is already committed to starring in the live-action version of Moana and may be approached for a Jungle Cruise sequel. Considering the potential controversy surrounding the franchise, it would be wise for Disney not to cast him in another volatile role that could trigger negative fan reactions.
