While Superman may be a sensitive subject for many following the decimation of the DCEU and a sense of excitement for others with the advent of the DCU in the future, at the present moment, Jack Quaid is filling the gap for the absence of the Man of Steel on the big screen.
Portraying the role of Clark Kent in My Adventures with Superman, the star is doing a fantastic job that’s winning fans over.
As comes with the territory, playing this role with finesse is no easy task, even if it’s just his voice that he lends to the character. But in the past, the star revealed that his perception of superheroes, especially Superman, has been altered thanks to his co-star Antony Starr from Prime Video’s The Boys, who plays the psychotic Homelander in the series, making it even harder to play his part.
Jack Quaid’s Role As Superman Has Been Challenging After Working With Antony Starr In The Boys
We all know that actor Jack Quaid is no stranger when it comes to Superhero entertainment as he’s most famous for playing the role of Hughie Campbell in the hit Prime Video series The Boys.
But what he is unfamiliar with is playing the conventional iteration of a superhero, which naturally proves to be a hard challenge when he voices Clark Kent and his alter-ego in the animated series My Adventures with Superman.
In the aforementioned series, the Oppenheimer star plays the role of the Man of Steel in his classic depiction of an aloof and loving superhero who wants to smile and let everyone else do the same.
The major problem that he faces is trying to keep that image in his head while voicing that character for the show, which is easier said than done since his co-star Antony Starr has immortalized the character of Homelander from The Boys in his mind.
In a past interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, Quaid revealed that since he has seen a twisted version of Superman while working with the Banshee star, it takes a lot to keep himself in check and not accidentally channel his inner Homelander too. When asked whether it gets hard to play his role, he said:
“A little bit, but [Starr] is also playing such a maniacal, evil person on that show. So as long as I don’t go full maniacal and evil it’s very easy! All I have to do as Superman is just do the opposite of whatever Homelander does. It would be weird if I came in saying, ‘I want Superman to be a psycho,’ because that’s definitely not this show.”
This challenge emerged on top of his challenge with the character since the beginning, which relates to him claiming to not look the part of the Symbol of Hope in real life that he portrays on-screen, something that fans would agree is him being silly.

Unlike modern iterations of grounded-in-reality and rustic versions of superheroes, My Adventures with Superman takes a step back and brings Superman with a wholesome narrative to focus.
The story follows the life of Clark Kent in his early twenties who is trying to build his identity of Superman, the protector of Metropolis while working as an investigative journalist at the Daily Planet with his friend Jimmy Olsen. Here, he falls in love with journalist Lois Lane and tries to live his life both as a superhero and a dedicated boyfriend.
