After two seasons of I Am Groot and What If?, Marvel Studios Animation is currently airing episodes of its revival series X-Men ’97 and fans are loving the updated look and continued brilliance of the narrative set by the 90s show. A new report suggests that the team will have new costumes by the end of the show.

Although this sounds like an exciting prospect, many fans are bringing up the possibility that the series might adopt the underwhelming costume design of Cyclops from the Jonathan Hickman era with his House of X comic issue (via Comicbook.com). While they loved Cyclops’ arc in the storyline (him leading the X-Men to prevent the creation of the ultimate mutant killer Nimrod), the updated look of Cyclops in the comic was not liked by many fans ( including a mask that covered the top of his head).

In addition to their concerns about Cyclops, others stated that it was unnecessary to give the entire team a complete makeover. Here are some of their reactions on X,

The MCU has a habit of changing costume designs of characters that have not always landed well with fans. While there is no confirmation of this reported costume change happening, fans are already worried that they might ruin the integrity of the team with an underwhelming makeover. It remains to be seen if this turns out to be true.

The titles under the Marvel Studios Animation banner have performed quite well and fans are tuning in to watch them. X-Men ’97 is currently going great and the executive producer of the show Brad Winderbaum talked to Men’s Health about how the show came up to be and trying to live up to the legacy of the original animated series.

Winderbaum also teased that Kevin Feige and the studio is working on other exciting animated shows including The Eyes of Wakanda which will explore deeper into Wakandan history and mythology. He also teased a crossover potential with the animated projects in the future along with a third season of What If?, the high school ensemble Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and Marvel Zombies. He said,

“We’re exploring so many amazing avenues on the animated side. Eyes of Wakanda, more than any other show, fits right into our sacred MCU timeline continuity. It’s about Wakandan history and mythology. There’s also a third season of What If…? with Bryan Andrews leading the charge, whose been there from the beginning.

And without spoiling anything, that’s where we start to feel crossover potential with animated projects. We’ve got Marvel Zombies coming down the road. And Jeff Trammell’s Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, which I’m going into a sound mix for in a couple of hours. It’s so great”

This news is surely exciting for fans who want to see more obscure and bold stories outside of the main live-action MCU storyline. All the aforementioned projects are promising and it remains to be seen if they manage to stick the landing with each of them when they premiere on Disney+.
