Harrison Ford On His Role In 1923

In the Yellowstone prequel series, 1923, the Witness star plays the role of Jacob Dutton, the patriarch of the Yellowstone ranch and great-great-grand-uncle of Kevin Costner’s character John. While it was certainly a big role to take on, Ford was up for the challenge and has been receiving high praise for his performance. Ford shared the reasons that moved him to grab the role of Jacob Dutton.

“There are things in the scripts that I never would’ve anticipated that are emotionally consistent with things that have happened in my life. So when I was reading it, I was thinking, ‘What the f*ck?’ They’re little things. I’m not going to tell you what they are. But he talks about turning a natural place into a city and the consequences to nature and for the people that live there. He talks about it with real understanding and real complexity. I’m struck by how consistent it is with what I think — or what I might have thought was I a rancher with the same personality in 1923.”

Harrison Ford On Kevin Costner

Harrison Ford revealed in the interview that he hasn’t been in touch with his fellow veteran star, Kevin Costner despite signing the prequel film of his lead series. The Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom star shared that he wished his “singular relationship” with the director of 1923, Taylor Sheridan, to lead his character in the way he wished to.

“Nope. I wanted my own singular relationship with Taylor to rule my behavior and my thoughts. I didn’t want to dirty up the road with somebody else’s. I have no idea how they get along. I would assume they get along great because Kevin does a great job.”

In another interview, The Call of the Wild star shared that he has enormous respect for the Dances with Wolves star, but has sadly not gotten a chance to connect with him.

“I respect Kevin enormously and his body of work and everything he’s done, and the work he’s doing in Yellowstone. But I’m on my own path. We haven’t had a chance to catch up, but I’m looking forward to it.”
