With the exception of the first Assassin’s Creed game, there has always been post-launch DLC available for the main series. And specifically with the Ezio trilogy there was a substantial amount of story-based DLC available. But it was in 2017 with the launch of Assassin’s Creed Origins that Ubisoft provided a lengthy amount of additional support, which included two story expansions, live activities and the Horde Mode.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage DLC – what’s changed

Fans may be disappointed by the news about the Assassin’s Creed Mirage DLC

On a recent Reddit AMA, Creative Director Stephane Boudon broke the hearts of Assassin’s Creed fans with the following comment in relation to the upcoming entry to the Assassin’s Creed franchise;

“For now, Mirage has no plan for DLC or extensive post-launch.”

It’s a pretty shocking announcement for fans of the franchise and Boudon further rubbed salt into the wound by confirming that unlike Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Valhalla before it, Ubisoft had no intention of supporting Mirage with any extensive post-launch updates. Wow. Not sure how some fans are going to feel about that one!

Is the news about the Assassin’s Creed Mirage DLC disappointing?

Not surprisingly, fans opinions were mixed on the announcement and they had the following to say on the matter on Twitter;

“I like the no DLC. Says to me they do indeed plan on launching Red in 2024 and want some space in between the two.”

“Eventually, it will get one. All of the AC game have gotten one or two DLCs since Unity. I don’t think Mirage will be the exemption though.”

“About time, they need to stop putting half of their games behind DLC and make a complete one from the get-go.”

But it should be pointed out that given that Ubisoft have already confirmed that they have scaled back the latest instalment, maybe this news about the Assassin’s Creed Mirage DLC shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. It was announced recently by Lead Producer, Fabian Salamon, that most players will be able to complete the game between 20-25 hours.

However the news has some critics left scratching their heads. Although Ubisoft are describing a return to basics, many see the long term plans for the Assassin’s Creed franchise as requiring to offer ongoing content updates for them to benefit financially.
