Astro Bot was the crown jewel of the recent State of Play and Team Asobi has caught the attention of the entire gaming community. The teaser trailer was quite detailed and featured other iconic characters under the PlayStation Studios banner to the most minute detail.
Eagle-eyed fans have spotted the impressive attention to detail the developers have done with the assets used in the game. The most notable is the toy gun is a perfect replica of the same toy gun used by Nathan Drake in Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
Uncharted 4 Fans Are Being Spoiled in Astro Bot
The gaming community has collectively decided that Team Asobi’s Astro Bot game was the highlight of State of Play and preferred it even more compared to other games. The franchise has always been family-friendly which made it quite appealing and the developers are given a great amount of freedom to make use and reference other iconic PlayStation characters.

Players have spotted Nathan Drake’s toy gun in the trailer and they expect more such references in the game. The State of Play was quite lackluster but the reveal of the new Team Asobi project was enough to compensate for it. David Jaffe, the original creator of the God of War franchise even suggested that a price cut on the PlayStation 5 be the cherry on top.
The developers took their sweet time to study every inch of detail and will be a treat to for long-time fans of the franchise. Perhaps Team Asobi has more easter eggs and references hidden up their sleeves for the gaming community to discover as soon as the full game is released later this year.
Astro Bot Has the Rich History of PlayStation at Its Disposal
Team Asobi has the rare opportunity to reflect and go way back to the core of many iconic PlayStation franchises and pay homage. Fans will appreciate the studio for the deep-cut references and it is an indication that Sony isn’t forgetting its roots and using them in the most meta way.
The developer is heavily banking on nostalgia and using it to its advantage. It is wholesome to see game developers take the time and effort to perfectly replicate the design of something small like a toy gun used in a brief section during the opening of Uncharted 4.
If the team were comfortable sharing this small detail in the teaser, one can only imagine other easter eggs and references the community can find in the game. Astro Bot will serve as a new adventure that will showcase the horsepower of the PlayStation 5 hardware while honoring the games that came before.
