Astro Bot was the highlight of the last State of Play and PlayStation 5 owners are excited to get their hands on Team Asobi’s next project. Unfortunately, quality gaming comes with a hefty price tag which could discourage the gaming community from grabbing it on day one.
Price can be a massive deal breaker for the casual gamer; not everyone is willing to spend much money on a game. This will be an ongoing dilemma throughout the current console generation and Astro Bot is now on that list.
Players Are on the Fence for Astro Bot’s Price Tag
The gaming community was delighted to see the easter eggs, references, and deep-cut callbacks from the history of PlayStation in the latest Team Asobi project. At one point, fans were able to spot how accurate the developers were in recreating certain assets like Nathan Drake’s toy gun from Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End in Astro Bot.

The potential selling price of the game has now been spotted on a Japanese listing and once converted, the game will be sold at around $60. Sackboy: A Big Adventure was another game with a similar vibe and family-friendly genre that was sold at the same price when it originally launched.
The gaming community complained long ago about how steep the prices can be for most of the newer titles being released today but that is part of the gambit. Game development is expensive and drains studios of their finances which is why they need to make up for what they have spent on production but fans don’t seem happy with this pricing for the game.
Astro Bot Is Gonna Be a Hard Sell for the Gaming Community
The gaming community is still not ready to accept that this is the reality of gaming. Developers can only do so much but if a project they have worked on has no return on investment then the company will have no reason to permit them or even greenlight another expensive game.
Some would argue that the price should be a proper reflection of the quality of a game which isn’t invalid or wrong. Team Asobi has proven plenty by releasing a free game which also served as a tech demo for the capabilities of the DualSense with Astro’s Playroom on every PlayStation 5.
The demo felt like a full-fledged game and the community can expect a similar quality but dialed to eleven for the upcoming game. The teaser promised new locations and biomes for the players to explore which could lead them to spend hours on the game.
It all comes down to preference, if a certain product means much to someone then the price will be an afterthought. There will always be people who are more comfortable spending a little less and waiting for a price drop or purchasing a used copy but the value remains.
