Here is what Best had to say about the subtle change in Rhaenys commanding her dragon in House of the Dragon.

Eve Best Reveals the Reason Behind Rhaenys’ Command in House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 4

House of the Dragon season 2 has ramped up the conflict between Team Black and Team Green of House Targaryen with the fourth episode featuring one of the best fight scenes in the series. When the three dragons face off, Rhaenys played by Eve Best, uses the command “attack,” instead of the “Dracarys” command used by her nephews. During an interview with Vulture, Best opened up about the scene and explained why Rhaenys opted for a less violent command.

They’re just like boys with guns; they want to maximize the amount of carnage.

Best made the above statement explaining why Aegon and Aemond opt for the Dracarys command. She added that in contrast, Rhaenys is concerned with the carnage of the fight and wants to control it by taking out her opponents’ dragons. She said:

At the same time, they’re her family, too. There was a lot of reluctance and the knowledge that they’re effectively pushing the red button.

Best explained given the conflict between the trio had reached a boiling point, Rhaenys found herself on a Kamikaze mission and couldn’t simply leave the fight.

At the same time, her bond with her dragon, Meleys, also led to Rhaenys surrendering to the circumstances after Vhagar fatally wounds Meleys. Thus, Rhaenys plummets to her demise after Meleys’s defeat, allowing Rhaenys to go out on her own terms.
