Eren Jaeger from Attack on Titan is probably the only protagonist in the entire anime world who played the role of both the hero and the villain of his series. This character was one of the main reasons why Attack on Titan became one of the most popular series in the entire world. His character was so well written that it resonated with the viewers in some way making them sympathetic towards the character even after he turned evil. This truly showed the imagination of Hajime Isayama, the creator of the series.

Fan Theory Reveals Eren Jaeger’s True Identity

Recently, a fan account with the name of aot-fan-fic posted a theory on Tumblr that pointed out a secret behind Eren’s identity. This theory states that as Eren was created by Ymir for her revenge on humanity with the help of the titan powers given to her by the Parasite known as the “source of all living matter”, it may be possible that Eren’s personality may split into two different personalities: The original Eren who wants to save everyone, and the other one who is being controlled and wants to destroy entire humanity.

This theory is also supported by the fact that this same kind of split personality is also seen in other characters such as Reiner when he saw Marco getting eaten by a titan. Also when Gabi shoots Eren and his head gets detached, it’s the parasite that attaches his head back. All these notions explain the reason why Eren turns evil.

Eren’s Personality changes from Good to Evil

Eren Jaeger is Attack on Titan’s determined protagonist at the start. In an attempt to exact revenge on the Titans and end their existence, he enlisted in the Survey Corps. But by the time the show ended, Eren had turned into an anti-hero and fallen into a place of darkness. He turned into the primary antagonist of Attack on Titan. After he unleashed the Rumbling and killed most of humanity, his allies had to defeat him.

Eren Jaeger was an innocent protagonist until a series of incidents turned him into a villain. His turning evil was prompted by several events, including the eating of his mother by a titan, witnessing the deaths of his allies in the battle with the titans, and learning about the world outside of Paradis Island. All these and many other instances were shown to be the reasons for him to turn evil and may somewhat cross the theory but still, the theory has a lot of relativity.
