Attack on Titan ended with the final episode released on November 5, 2023. After running for a decade, it ended on a glorious note, and fans have marked the anime as a masterpiece. Even though the manga ending was criticized, Hajime Isayama, the creator of Attack on Titan, made a few changes, and the fans accepted it with open arms.
With Eren Jaeger immortalizing himself as one of the greatest characters to be ever made, Hajime Isayama’s magnum opus will be the talking of the anime fandom for some time. But one thing that might bring discomfort to the fans is that the end might not be the end. With Attack on Titan having an open-ended finale, there might be more to it than it offers.
Attack on Titan May Have A New Beginning
The finale was 85 minutes long and was a full detailed show of Eren Jaeger dismantling humankind to make the future of his friends secure. The fandom was grief-stricken and may have missed one of the crucial moments of the anime. During the post-credit scene, there was a boy and a dog that were going towards the underneath of the giant tree that Eren Jaeger was buried under.
If the fans could go back in time a little, they would remember that it was the same way Ymir Fritz first became the Founding Titan. Being treated as a slave her whole life, she ran away, and on her way, she stumbled and fell into a deep hollow underneath a giant tree. It was there that the ‘source of all living matter’ fused with her and created the whole titan timeline.
The tree at the end of Attack on Titan‘s finale looked the same, and having reached the same girth led to the rumours that the end is actually the beginning of it. The boy with the dog might have the same fate as Ymir Fritz. Since it had an open end, these thoughts always come curling up. But these are all just speculations, and nothing has been officially confirmed.
More on Attack on Titan
The thought that Attack on Titan’s story might not be anywhere near its end cannot be dismissed completely. The nature of the ending of the anime left a big question in the minds of the audience. But this is the beauty of Hajime Isayama. Even though it has ended, people feel that it has not. Attack on Titan has kept us on the edge of our seats for the past decade, so it may be another way to stay on the headlines.
MAPPA outdid themselves with their animation and left no margin for error. Attack on Titan can be streamed on Hulu and Crunchyroll. With 90 episodes, people can just binge-watch it once again. But their question regarding the ending will remain the same. It might be too early to throw away the possibility of a continuation.
