After developing the Avatar franchise from the ground up, director James Cameron compared himself to legendary author J.R.R. Tolkien and director Peter Jackson who adopted the books into a trilogy. Claiming himself to be the creator and the guide, Cameron allegedly felt superior to the duo who brought the universe of Orcs and Elves to life in 2001.
Talking about his Avatarverse against the fantasy world of Tolkien and Jackson, James Cameron stated that he had to become Tolkien and then go back to being Peter Jackson to complete the shooting of Avatar: The Way of Water.
James Cameron Compared Himself To Peter Jackson And J.R.R. Tolkien
While talking about the director’s recent magnum opus, James Cameron got too much candid about creating history with Avatar: The Way of Water. With the film crunching box office numbers, the director went on to compare his masterpiece with that of J.R.R. Tolkien and that of director Peter Jackson.
In an interview with Time, the director talked about Avatar: The Way of Water along with Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings franchise. Cameron stated that he had to essentially create the world by becoming J.R.R. Tolkien and then come back and adapt it onto the big screens like Peter Jackson.
“I was trying to do a simulation of, ‘OK, I’m Peter Jackson making Lord of the Rings except Lord of the Rings doesn’t exist yet, so I need to go be Tolkien and create Lord of the Rings, and then I can go be Peter Jackson,’ A little bit cheeky and ambitious, but I wasn’t adapting some big pantheon of books that existed. I had to go do that.”
Although the director was right, people thought that James Cameron did not use the appropriate words to address the situation better. With plans to direct a movie regarding some historical events, James Cameron may just distract himself before Avatar 4 arrives.
James Cameron’s Movie About The Hiroshima Bombings
Before James Cameron tries to finish the Avatar movies, the director wishes to go back to the historical era of World War 2. With another dream that was left unachieved, Cameron wants to make a movie regarding the Hiroshima bombings that occurred back in 1945.
The Titanic director talked about adapting the novel by Charles R. Pellegrino. The book titled The Last Train From Hiroshima: The Survivors Look Back talks about the bombing at Hiroshima told from the perspective of the survivors.
“We live in a more precarious world than we thought we did. I think the Hiroshima film would be as timely as ever, if not more so. It reminds people what these weapons really do when they’re used against human targets.”
The movie is yet set for a release date as the people hope for the visionary director to release the film. As for Avatar: The Way of Water, the movie currently stands at $2.245 billion dollars at the box office. The movie is currently running in theaters worldwide for people to see.
