Avatar: The Last Airbender is on its way to get a film, and it seems that a WWE alum will finally be joining the universe in a significant manner. It has been reported that Guardians of the Galaxy and Dune alum Dave Bautista will be a part of the film, essaying the role of the chief antagonist of the movie.
The film is set to follow the original Team Avatar from The Last Airbender, and will possibly be set before the events of The Legend of Korra. However, given the glimpses of the past that we have seen in the successor series, it is possible that these plot points are expanded on in the film, which indicates that we might come face to face with some of Aang’s foes that we have seen in the show.
Aang could be dealing with the fallout of crippling an empire
In the comics that followed in the wake of Avatar: The Last Airbender, we saw Zuko and Aang dealing with the decolonization of the Earth Kingdom, with multiple attempts on Zuko’s life as blended Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom families had now popped up in all of the colonized regions. Something similar happened in the comics of the Legend of Korra, where the Earth Empire lived thanks to defectors who thought Kuvira was too weak.
Aang and his friends could find themselves fighting vestiges of the Fire Nation, small pockets of “loyalists” that could want to return the nation to the hands of Azula or Ozai. There is also the fact that we could see one of the villains from the Legend of Korra make an appearance, perhaps the likes of a younger Red Lotus or even Yakone from the Legend of Korra, who Aang put on trial himself. Of course, there is also just as much a possibility that the film comes up with a completely new villain for the Gaang to fight.
Speculations have been going wild about Dave Bautista’s character in the Avatar film
While a popular choice for Combustion Man in Avatar: The Last Airbender‘s live-action series, there are a slew of characters Dave Bautista could play in the Avatar film. While his character has been kept tightly under wraps, we can assume that the actor will be playing a more menacing villain than Fire Lord Ozai for the Gaang, as they are now powerful benders in their own right, who have entered adulthood. It must be noted that Toph would be well on her way to becoming the Republic City police chief (with her own team of metal benders)
The film has a lot of potential to show us a few great characters. It is also possible that we will see characters that have yet to appear in the story, such as Lin or Suyin’s father, and pick up the storylines of various characters after the series, such as Tsuki, Mai, or even Ty-Lee.
