M. Night Shyamalan has something up his sleeves regarding Avatar as he finally releases Avatar: The Last Airbender on Netflix. Famous Indian-American director Manoj Nelliyattu Shyamalan, well known for his supernatural plots and climax twists, has won 13 prestigious cinema awards and 34 nominations as of now.
His latest work, Avatar: The Last Airbender dropped on Netflix on 22nd February 2024. It is a live-action series that is an adaptation of the 2005-2008 animated series carrying the same name. Although director Shyamalan had high hopes for the 8-episode series, critics and fans turned out to be on the opposite shore of the sea. Sounds a bit disappointing for sure.
Critics and Fans Seem to be Unhappy with Avatar: The Last Airbender
The live-action series of the well-known animated series with the same name, Avatar: The Last Airbender is falling short of everyone’s expectations. Starring Gordon Cormier as Aang, Dallas James Liu as Zuko, and Kiawentiio Tarbell as Katara, Avatar: The Last Airbender didn’t get a warm welcome from the fans.
The latest live-action series is facing much criticism on the web for some reasons. The most important reasons to begin with are poor writing and bland visuals. The director has become infamous for his loose adaptation of such a great animated series.
Fans are continuously complaining about the lack of the original spirit in the series. One of the X-app users mentioned that the negative reviews are the consequence of the director trying to change Sokka’s character to fit with the modern trend.
The reviews on this aren't good. Big OUCH for Netflix. Let's see how the fans like it

I mean this is the quality of writers on streaming services… They don't even read sources, and if they do they're just gonna change everything anyway to fit themselves and not the audience.
There were reports of them taking out all the "edgy" stuff in this. Of course it's… pic.twitter.com/T6o1QQk5rk

I was 90% sure this was going to fail the moment they left the script and focused on activism.
Twice they have attempted to make live-action of Avatar Last Airbender, twice they have failed.— Tc (@eric_tc24) February 22, 2024
I observed, the visuals seem very poor in the trailer, it will be a huge failure though.

According to the fans, only some good series have to get a live-action version because, in the process, the original feel gets compromised to a huge extent.
Viewers Might Have Been Hasty with the Reviews
Directed by M. Night Shyamalan, Avatar: The Last Airbender is facing a lot of criticism online due to some or other reasons. It may be true that the series is unable to satisfy the hearts of the fans, but the statement seems to be made in a rush. The negative reviews can also be hasty opinions of many critics and fans.
While many fans are trolling the series, some fans have put forward logical points in defense of the series. Fans in favor of the series have posted some sound arguments on the X app. One of the X users wrote:
“You can’t just criticize it when u haven’t even seen the whole thing.”
The fact is that all the negative reviews are very spontaneous and none of them have given the series a chance to settle down. It’s not only a hard time for the director and actors of the series, but the hasty reviews have spoiled the reputation of Netflix too.
Avatar: The Last Airbender is available for streaming on Netflix.
