The most latest Netflix live-action release featured the adaptation of the popular animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender. The series was initially doubted by the fans because of its history in the live-action genre, but Netflix managed to make a great series and it has been receiving a lot of love and appreciation from the fans of the original series.

The live-action adaptation series reenacts the events of the first animated series, following Aang as he battles Fire Lord Ozai by learning how to control all four elements. The series has not only topped the Netflix Top 10 charts, but it has managed to break the record of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece live-action adaptation.

Avatar: The Last Airbender Breaks One Piece Live-Action Record

According to Netflix, Avatar: The Last Airbender, the live-action series, is dominating the platform and has risen to the top of the list of the top 10 TV shows for the week of February 19–25, 2024. Released on Thursday, February 22, the series attracted 21.2 million viewers, who logged 153.4 million hours of viewing time. 

It made it to first place on the 92 countries’ list of the Top 10. This result exceeded that of the previous live-action adaption on the site, One Piece, which received 18.5 million views in its first four days of release in September of last year.

Not only did the series outperform Netflix’s previous live-action anime adaptations, but it also cemented its position as the top show on the platform globally. As a result of the success of these live-action series, Netflix has been capitalizing on the popularity and large fan base of the anime industry and has achieved yet another victory.

One Piece Live-Action’s Performance in its Initial Week

Avatar: The Last Airbender’s viewership had a 15% increase from the premiere of the live-action adaptation series One Piece. Between August 28 and September 10, One Piece topped the weekly global Netflix chart, appearing among the top 10 in 93 countries and at the top in 46 others. In its first week, 18.5 million viewers watched 140 million hours of the show.

Although, Avatar: The Last Airbender has been leading the race in its initial week, the overall stats of the series will determine whether it performed better than One Piece live-action or not. Irrespective of the race, both series have amassed a huge viewership and have indicated that the love for live-action series is growing day by day.

Anime fans have expressed appreciation for both One Piece and Avatar: The Last Airbender and are eagerly waiting for the next season of both series. While the second season of One Piece live-action has already been announced by the streaming platform, looking at the success of Avatar: The Last Airbender, fans hope that Netflix will soon announce its second season too.
