Fans Think Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom Will Kill America Chavez
In 2022, the world was introduced to Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez in the iconic MCU film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. With the power to cross universes, Chavez became an important person for Doctor Strange in the movie.
Now, before we discuss the matter further, we would like to clarify that the America Chavez that fans are talking about is the comic-book version of Chavez, not the film version.
Fans think that the character of America Chavez doesn’t really add \much to the story of the Marvel Comics. When a rumor spread that Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom might kill someone in Avengers: Doomsday, all fingers were turned toward America Chavez.
Well, these are the fan reactions, of course, but what many people might wonder is why there is such hatred for the character of America Chavez in Marvel Comics as well as some part of the MCU as well.
The answer is quite simple, really. Fans think that Chavez is just a mix of stereotyped people and has common superhero tropes that they might just be tired of.
Why Do Fans Hate America Chavez?
In a discussion on Reddit, people talked about America Chavez and why thousands of people seem to have a problem with her. For starters, the trope of a Latina LGBTQ+ superhero has been done several times now.
During the discussion, fans pointed out that America Chavez was given two basic tropes, being a Latino LGBTQ+ member, which has been used oftentimes.
Another point that fans seemed to argue is that the writing in Marvel Comics was terrible for America Chavez as some of them called it “cringe”. People fear that America Chavez in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going down the same path as that of the comic books and want to avoid that scenario.
However, there can be no confirmation (or denial) that Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom may or may not kill America Chavez. It does seem a fair point that Doom will need Chavez to traverse the Multiverse. However, her fate might just lie in the hands of Robert Downey Jr.’s villainous role.
Avengers: Doomsday is set for a release date of 1 May 2026 in theaters across the U.S.
