Joss Whedon, the acclaimed director and screenwriter known for his work on projects like The Avengers and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has made a bold statement about his creative process. The director of the Avengers: Age of Ultron, has allegedly said that he doesn’t take notes from anyone, not even Robert Downey Jr.
Despite directing two of Disney and Marvel’s highest-grossing movies at the time, Whedon decided to leave the MCU and not helm Avengers: Infinity War. It was reported that too many creative differences between Whedon and President Kevin Feige about how the MCU should proceed led to the decision.
Joss Whedon Would Not Take Any Notes, Even If It Is Robert Downey Jr.
Reports suggest, Joss Whedon stated that he doesn’t take notes from anyone, not even from the influential Robert Downey Jr., often considered the godfather of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Actor Ray Fisher claimed that during the filming of Justice League, Whedon trimmed many things from the earlier Zack Snyder version. Fisher got a totally modified script where there was no Cyborg’s story.
Recalling a meeting between Whedon and him, Fisher said The Hollywood Reporter that Whedon told him about the changes he made in the script.
When Fisher told Whedon about some issues with his character and that he had a few notes on this, the director told him that he does not take any notes from anyone.
He claimed the director told him, “It feels like I’m taking notes right now, and I don’t like taking notes from anybody — not even Robert Downey Jr.”
Joss Whedon and Downey Jr. had a totally different approach to their work and in an interview with Yahoo, Whedon also admitted it.
Former DC President Finally Calls Joss Whedon’s Justice League Terrible
Diane Nelson, who ran DC Entertainment from 2009 to 2018, gave her opinion on Justice League, admitting that the 2017’s final cut was ‘terrible.’
In an interview with Bleeding Cool, Nelson said:
“My characterization is Joss was a bit of a shiny penny during a time when they were looking for something shiny to grab onto… Yeah, I mean, I thought the final film was terrible. Yeah, I mean, I would have much preferred a darker-than-I-wanted or longer-than-I’d hoped-for Zack Snyder cut than the Frankenstein cut we got in theaters. The Trinity characters of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman should have, by any measure, blown any other superhero movie away, and they didn’t.”
For the unversed, Zack Snyder was associated with the project but he stepped down as director during the post-production process due to the tragic demise of his daughter. The Avengers director, Joss Whedon was hired to finish the project.
The movie ranks at 39% on Rotten Tomatoes and made close to $658 million worldwide where the production budget fell to about $300 million.
