Kirsten Dunst Called Awards “bullsh*t“
Kirsten Dunst has had a successful career in Hollywood. She has starred in a variety of films, from blockbusters to independent films. However, she doesn’t believe that awards are a reflection of an actor’s talent or worth.
In an interview with the Guardian, the actress spoke her mind:
“Awards are pretty much all bulls*it. They make you care about it – so that’s just annoying. It’s the community’s fault they make you want it, and care about it.”
She highlighted how her two films Marie Antoinette and Drop Dead Gorgeous got very late recognition. She said:
“When I said that [I felt underrated] I mostly meant Marie Antoinette and Drop Dead Gorgeous. Those movies were not reviewed well, and everyone loves them now. I feel like a lot of things I do, people like later.”
She won the prestigious Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress for Melancholia in 2011.
In 2022, Dunst was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Power of the Dog.
She Was Snubbed from the 2011 Oscars for Performance in Melancholia
Kirsten Dunst was outstanding in Melancholia. However, the Academy failed to accolade her performance in the film. Critics and audiences alike were blown away by her performance.
Despite the acclaim, when the 2011 Academy Award nominations were announced, Dunst’s name was conspicuously absent from the list of Best Actress nominees. This omission raised eyebrows in the industry.

Dunst added that “a lot of things I do people like later”.
For example, she continued:
“Remember when Marie Antoinette [came out] – y’all panned it? And now you all love it. Remember Drop Dead Gorgeous? Panned. Now you all love it. I just feel like, ‘What did I do?’” she said. “I am so chill. Maybe I don’t play the game enough. I’m intelligent enough to know that and have perspective, but sometimes you’re like, ‘It would be nice to be recognized by your peers.’”
She won the prestigious Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress for Melancholia in 2011. In 2022, Dunst was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Power of the Dog.
Nevertheless, in an industry where recognition can be elusive, Kirsten Dunst’s work speaks for itself.
