Actor Pedro Pascal is currently ruling our hearts as Joel from the live-action adaptation of The Last of Us. His on-screen chemistry with co-star Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie, has us all extremely invested in the show that only has just a few episodes out.

However, his role as Joel certainly does not overshadow the other characters he has played in his career. One of those iconic roles includes the work he did in The Mandalorian as the title character, aka Din Djarin. While his role in the show was quite interesting (come on, who wouldn’t want to play a bounty hunter?), he had a completely different reason for choosing to be a part of Jon Favreau’s show. The reason is simply an adorable-looking character known as Baby Yoda.

The Child aka Grogu is the bounty for Pedro Pascal’s character. While Grogu is not related to Yoda, he is endearingly called Baby Yoda by fans of the franchise, simply because he belongs to the same species as the beloved character. Pascal believed that the show would be a hit because of Baby Yoda and he was right on the mark.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Pascal revealed that the animatronic puppet was actually why he wanted to do The Mandalorian in the first place. He called it a selfish move stating that he knew The Child would be a great hit, making people more attracted to the show.

“[Baby Yoda] is why I wanted to do this show. Selfishly, I knew [The Child] was likely to make people fall in love with the show.”

He really wasn’t in the wrong, too. Almost as if Pascal could see into the future, he was a hundred percent right to make that statement. Ever since Grogu/Baby Yoda hit the screens, the Internet was drowning in its cuteness. The famous snippet of Baby Yoda sipping soup/tea/coffee from a vessel became a popular meme, as well.

Talking to People, Pascal admitted that he was “cooing a little bit” on the set of The Mandalorian when he first “met” the alien. Remember when we used to have full-blown conversations with our toys during a tea party? It looks like Baby Yoda made Pascal relive those moments as the actor revealed that he would have conversations with The Child just like he did when he was a child.

“I’d then have conversations in the same way that we did when we were kids with our own little toys. It has everything to do with the amount of work that these people have put into it, because it’s a very, very special creation, and it feels as such when you see it in person.”

We cannot blame Pascal for this for if we were in his place, we’d probably do the same. Baby Yoda is just too adorable! The lovable creature was flooding our social media feeds and we were all for it! Who wouldn’t want an adorable green alien on their screen?

The Mandalorian is available to stream on Disney+.
