FromSoftware delighted fans with the announcement of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion in February 2023, around the first anniversary of the game. Fans have been hyped since then, but there has been no information from the developers after the announcement, saddening them, and fans are now in for some more bad news.

FromSoftware parent company Kadokawa released its quarterly finance reports on February 8, 2024, and with the report, it shared details about the Elden Ring DLC in the FAQ section. The question was about the development status of the Elden Ring DLC and when it would be released. Kadokawa stated,

We are currently working hard on the development of DLC for Elden Ring but we have not announced a release date at this time.

This is surely disappointing news for fans who have been waiting for the DLC to release, and the recent leaks and backend Steam updates are only to blame. There have been several Steam backend updates that convinced fans that the release of Shadow of the Erdtree in February was imminent, but this update from Kadokawa only dismisses the speculation and anticipation.

The playlist on Bandai Namco’s official YouTube channel was also updated, and fans thought that maybe something related to the Elden Ring DLC. A Bandai Namco and Thrustmaster collaboration was also leaked that mentioned an Elden Ring-themed controller was set to be released “in sync” with the Shadow of the Eldtree DLC, and that too in February 2024.

Other than revealing that Elden Ring DLC is in the works, Kadokawa also shared some other details about the game under the Future Outlook section. The report stated that FromSoftware will “step up efforts to improve profitability,” adding that “various measures are currently in progress for ELDEN RING, including the development of major DLC, to maximize LTV (lifetime value).”

Moreover, there was also the mention of “considering schemes to expand the scope of our publishing,” meaning that Kadokawa might publish the upcoming games by FromSoftware, but it still does not help the fans, who are now more than annoyed waiting for the release of the DLC. While they wait, a report claims that the Elden Ring mobile version is in development at Tencent.

Elden Ring was released in 2022, and it has been a long wait for fans for the DLC. FromSoftware would need to hurry up with the announcement if it wants to maintain the hype around the game, which has managed to stay relevant even after two years, as well as the upcoming expansion.
