Baldur’s Gate 3 has had an incredible start and is possibly the most popular game to release in August. As fans are filling the internet with questions about the Larian Studios title, the developer is working hard to fix some of the bugs players have discovered. The most recent glitch gamers have noticed that has since been patched, has to do with the anatomical design of customizable characters. In particular, it relates to the genital region not being covered by clothing. The Baldur’s Gate 3 patch, which is designated as “Hotfix #2” details the following information about the bug:

“Penises C and D no longer clip through some githyanki clothing.

Male gnome sorcerers are no longer missing their undies.”

While some gamers and gaming reporters might hope this is the first and last time such an awkward bug would make the news, it is not even the first time such an issue has occurred. CD Projekt Red’s redemption in progress title, Cyberpunk 2077, had the exact same genital issue. It turns out customizable characters in fully immersive RPG games just can’t keep it in their pants.

Those at Larian Studios are working hard to patch Baldur’s Gate 3 so players can enjoy the fun without worrying about any game breaking glitches. The developer recently fixed a save bug that was forcing users to start from scratch any time their system crashed. This was the most concerning issue in the game, but there have been other issues the studio has acknowledged. Nevertheless, Larian is keeping things light-hearted despite these issues. When addressing the fans at the beginning of “Hotfix #2” it said the following:

“…there’s work to be done on the road to the PlayStation 5 launch on September 6, and we’re busy working away on squashing some of the remaining bugs and issues that have come up since launch. We’ve got a new hotfix for you this week, addressing almost 300 crashes, blockers, and bugs. We saw a video floating around on the internet this week of… an unintentional gnome sorcerer wardrobe malfunction, and have kindly asked them to cover up while descending into the Underdark.”

While PC gamers continue to act as lab rats for Baldur’s Gate 3, before it rolls out to PlayStation 5, you might be wondering what’s going on with the playable character customization. Although many have made a joke of the genital glitch, it does not necessarily mean the game is a comedy. In many ways, Baldur’s Gate 3 is whatever the player chooses it to be, as the title strives to be a true RPG experience. Larian Studios designed it so individual gamers could make the decisions that affect the outcome of the story. The character selection is just one way the user can choose how explicit they want their gaming experience to be.

Baldur’s Gate 3 can be comedic at times, but the tone is certainly not centered around humor. The game still has fairly serious moments for those who want a more emotional experience.

Larian Studios was also very thoughtful in the way it put the game together. The developer hired intimacy coordinators to work with the motion capture actors, as they filmed romance scenes. It is a part of the creation of the game Larian hopes others will copy in the future. If you are interested in learning more about the process, take a look at our article on the topic, which is linked below.
