Even almost a year after its release, fans are finding out new details and other previously missed secrets. But, according to a Reddit thread, there’s one glaring issue: the timing of when you can recruit certain characters, specifically Halsin and Jaheira.

The Frustration with Halsin in Baldur’s Gate 3

According to a Reddit thread, the user points out that you only get access to Halsin after completing the Rescue Thaniel storyline, which is a major letdown as it is a bit too late, especially given all the related narrative that takes place leading up to the final quest that lets you get Halsin.

Halsin should’ve been playable after the Teiflings Party

They argue that Halsin should have been available for recruitment right after the tieflings’ party, which happens at the end of Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3. This act also sets up Halsin as a very powerful and influential Archdruid who knows a lot.

Players spend a lot of time learning about him, only to be able to recruit him near the end of Act 2. By then, his story is practically over, and he doesn’t contribute much anymore, and all of this just feels too little, too late.

The user imagines how much more impactful it would have been if Halsin could have joined the party earlier. He could have commented on the locations around him, guided the player through the Mountain Pass, and helped navigate the Shadow Lands.

The idea is that he should have been an active participant and party member, helping the player with his powerful Druid magic and abilities via combat. This way, players would have a stronger connection to him as a character and feel his influence more deeply, rather than being too late with it.

Jaheira’s Late Arrival Is Also Somewhat Controversial

Another point of contention is Jaheira, who also joins the party kind of late in the game. By the time players can recruit her, both of the druid-related questlines are practically over. This timing feels like a missed opportunity.

Players go through two major quests involving druids but don’t have a druid in their party for most of the journey, who can help them by providing more relevant dialogues, interactions, insights, and whatnot. This is frustrating for many, as it would have been much more satisfying to have a druid ally during those quests.

Players want to see these characters actively participating in the story, not just tagging along once their major story arcs are over. This does feel like a missed opportunity to make the game’s narrative and gameplay more cohesive and rewarding, although the game is still pretty amazing as it is, and it’s hard to make it absolutely perfect whilst satisfying every single player.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a near-perfect game, but it drops the ball in a few ways with Halsin, according to some players. If the developers ever consider making changes via future patches, this is one area that would greatly benefit from a revision.
