Baldur’s Gate 3 is heading towards a massive update scheduled for September this year with Patch 7. For players who can’t wait for September to jump into new content, the upcoming patch beta will start on July 22nd.
There are a number of options for players to look forward to as their adventure in this Dungeons and Dragons-inspired video game continues. Aside from many bug fixes and character improvements, Larian is bringing an Official Modding Toolkit, that might be more powerful than anything in other RPGs.
Larian is Bringing Modding to Baldur’s Gate 3’s Forgotten Realms
With the upcoming Patch 7 in September, Larian Studios is set to introduce the Official Modding Toolkit to Baldur’s Gate 3. This will not only let players mod their favorite game, but it will change the modding scene as the toolkit is a huge game changer, offering an array of tools not seen in Skyrim, Starfield, and other similar games.
This toolkit allows players to create and modify items, cosmetics, classes, subclasses, races, dice skins, and the user interface.
The mod support is still far away from the official release, but things are moving forward. Currently, in a Closed Alpha phase, there are a few select Mod Authors who are testing the toolkit and what it can bring to the Faerun this fall.
The Closed Alpha will provide insights through official feedback and Larian and everyone else will be ready for a September rollout.
Larian is Giving Away Baldur’s Gate 3 to the Community Through Modding

Despite the immense success of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios is not planning a sequel or even a DLC for the classic role-playing game, as it is focused on other projects.
Nevertheless, the devs aren’t ending the support and are working on one last major update that will introduce modding and additional features, such as evil endings, adding a huge chunk of replayability.
CEO Swen Vincke stated during a BAFTA event that this update marks the point where the game is fully handed over to the players, despite some limitations due to the D&D license.
Mod Authors have already begun exploring the toolkit in a Closed Alpha. For example, Mod Author, Padme4000, created the Dragonborn Scale Colours mod, praising the toolkit’s visual tools that allow her to see changes in real-time.
Another Mod Author, TechRoot, developed the FaerûnColors mod, which transforms tedious tasks into intuitive ones.
While these are now the simplest options and solutions modders deal with currently, there is still time until September. With the toolkit Larian will make the modding accessible for everyone, giving away the future of the game to the community.
