Bandai Namco has announced a Pac-Man battle royale game called PAC-MAN Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs that will let up to 64 players compete against each other. The game is an updated version of the battle royale title Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle, which was released in 2020 for Stadia but closed down with the streaming service.
PAC-MAN Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs will be developed by Amber Studio. There were rumors of a new Pac-Man battle royale game back in August when the company filed a patent, and now the game has been confirmed, slated to release in early 2024.
A New Pac-Man Battle Royale Title Is Coming Next Year
The new game, PAC-MAN Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs, is an online multiplayer battle royale title and aims to deliver “enhanced visuals, new gameplay modes, a host of customization options, and new music.” The game will support cross-platform play, allowing up to 64 players from different modern platforms to compete against each other.

The game will also have skill-based custom matchmaking with a friend system, ranked mode, and a global leaderboard. Players will be able to invade the opponents and defeat them to grow their Pac-Man avatar through multiple interconnected mazes. The mazes in the game will be eliminated from play while a round is going on, and the players in those mazes will be out. Bandai Namco’s description of the game reads:
In the game, players must eat their way through multiple interconnected mazes to become the Chomp Champ – a.k.a. the last Pac standing at the end of each match. Gain the upper hand on other players or turn the tables against Ghosts by utilizing a variety of Power Items which give Pac-Man shields, enhanced speed, and more.
The new Pac-Man battle royale game will also feature Power Items that players can collect and use to ensure their survival in the maze. The power items help players guard themselves from enemies and repel both enemies and ghosts.
Players will also be able to chomp other Pac-Man and not just the regular dots and fruits. Following the fast-paced Pac gameplay, the last standing Pac will be crowned the winner of the match and be called the Chomp Champ.
Players will be able to customize their Pac avatars in Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs using different types of body, head, and face with amazing accessories and cosmetics. The new Pac-Man battle royale game will feature two main game modes, namely, Ranked and Elimination, for a healthy and fun competition as per their preferences. Players will also be able to spectate matches from the global or regional leaderboards.
The Elimination Mode is an arcade-style action experience that lets players of any rank compete against each other and obtain Tokens to unlock cosmetics and more items. Ranked Mode provides a more serious battle than Elimination Mode, where players of the same skill levels compete and fight it out to earn Rank XP and try getting them on the leaderboards.
The previous Pac-Man battle royale game in the franchise, Pac-Man 99, allowed players to enjoy online multiplayer battle royale and was instantly loved by players worldwide. Now Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs will take this concept further with its 3D graphics, various mazes, and avatar customization options.

Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs is eyeing a launch in early 2024, but no specific release date has been announced so far. The game will be released for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC platforms.
