What is quite interesting and odd for some, however, is that the actor and wrestler, during an interview, stated that another one of his recent projects, Fast X, shows parallels to the Greta Gerwig future classic.

John Cena Was Working On Fast X When He Approached Margot Robbie For Barbie

John Cena has revealed that while he was on set and filming the tenth Fast and Furious film, Fast X, Barbie was being shot right across the street from them. The actor had let his interest in being part of the movie very clear but nothing came from it. This was until he met Margot Robbie herself.

“I haven’t worked with Margot before. Fast X was filming across the street from Barbie, and Margot asked, ‘Why don’t you do Barbie?’ I said, ‘I’ve been trying!’ And Margot makes a lot of the decisions for that and I said, ‘Well, I’ll do whatever you need.'” he said

While the two hadn’t worked together before, Robbie asked Cena why he wasn’t part of her project, to which he told her that he had been trying for quite some time. The actress then talked to him quite a bit about this and Cena told her that he would be willing to play any role that he could, simply wanting to be part of the project. The ex-wrester ultimately ended up playing Merman Ken opposite Dua Lipa as Mermaid Barbie.

John Cena Finds Some Parallels Between Fast X And Barbie

John Cena then went on to talk about a similarity that he had noticed between Fast X and Barbie. While this idea on its own sounds quite odd, considering that Fast X is an action film in the world of cars and Barbie is a movie with a philosophical message disguised in a world of pretty and pink, Cena still believes that these films are not that far off from each other.

“I think Barbie and Fast X share a lot of parallels. The Barbie cast list is amazing. The Fast X cast list is amazing. It was a chance to [say], ‘Hey, would you guys be willing to have me if I could do something?'” He said

The actor elaborated, stating that both of these movies feature quite a star-studded cast, with Fast X featuring actors like Brie Larson, Dwayne Johnson, Pete Davidson, and Jason Momoa, while Barbie features some biggest assortment of people like Dua Lipa, Michael Cera, Connor Swindells, and Will Ferrell. Cena then went on to say that in the case of both of these films, any actor was willing to be a part of the project if given the opportunity.
