Over a year ago, Kevin Smith, the host of the popular podcast FatMan Beyond stated that Alan Ritchson in Jack Reacher is basically the Batman with no cape. A comic book fan and apparently friends with Ben Affleck, his words quickly led to a string of rumors about how Ritchson would actually be the perfect Caped Crusader in DC’s reboot.

And now, over a year later and with a plethora of fan art of the actor as Batman, Ritchson himself addressed these rumors in a new interview with Fortress of Solitude. When asked about whether he might be willing to give the role a chance, he stated,

“With all the rumours flying that I’m supposed to be playing Batman, how can I knock Batman? I would love to play Batman.”

While these are just rumors, seeing the history of Ritchson with the comic-book universe, the actor might turn out to be a cool Batman if cast. Since James Gunn‘s Batman reboot will have a younger version of the character featured along with Damian Wayne, the Smallville star fits perfectly with the description.

As for the physique and looks for the role, Ritchson already has a brooding muscular body with a razor-sharp jawline and the perfect voice, making him check all the boxes that DC has for the new Defender of Gotham.

Alan Ritchson: Batman’s Cooler, But Reacher Would Win

While talking to the Fortress of Solitude, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles star got candid about the possibility of him starring as Batman. Affirming that he would love to jump on the DC wagon if given the opportunity, Ritchson stated that Batman is cooler than his Jack Reacher role.

“You know, [Batman without a cape] is a great analogy, actually. But I mean, Batman has got like a cave, and Reacher doesn’t even have a house. He’s got a toothbrush. So, I think Batman has got cool stuff. Dude is loaded and has caves, penthouses, and spotlights that call him. Batman’s cooler.”

However, if the two characters were to go head-to-head, the actor feels Reacher would win hands down.

“But I mean, Reacher would be harder to go down in a fight. Just him and his toothbrush, and [Batman] be like, ‘Damn, he’s holding on. It’s been 30 minutes.’ So, it would be fun.”

While it would certainly be a fun spectacle, his bold claim about Reacher defeating one of DC’s mightiest heroes seems a little too far-fetched for the DC fans. However, it doesn’t diminish the fact that Ritchson is indeed a popular fan cast that DC must not ignore.
