8 years ago, the world was introduced to a gangster side of Rihanna in her most celebrated party song titled BBHMM. The acronym that stands for “B**ch Better Have My Money” is an age-restricted song as the video features intense scenes of torture and nudity.
Although it is the most celebrated party song of Rihanna, the singer was accused of being a misogynist with her song. The song was deemed immoral and the intense torture scenes were deemed unnecessary however, there may be a completely different story to the song!
Rihanna’s BBHMM Song Is Deemed As A Misogynist Song!
The video starts with a blonde rich woman walking to the lift with her dog. What follows is a 7-minute torture video filled with nudity as the rich woman gets kidnapped by Rihanna and is tortured because her husband (played by Mads Mikkelsen) was her accountant.
The video is quite chaotic but majorly it was praised for the cinematography and visuals. Although people might find the video exciting and enthralling, a report by The Guardian states that the song was 7 minutes of misogyny. Citing that the female-on-female torture was a promoter of violence and more specifically violence against women.
The plot of the song was also deemed as idiotic since the main villain was Mads Mikkelsen as the accountant but there was no need to involve the rich blonde woman for the storyline. The report further stated that BBHMM was just a “woman-hating, sub-snuff video”. A different report alleges that Rihanna’s video was actually inspired by her real-life accountant whom the singer sued in 2012 for giving out terrible advice!

Rihanna’s Song Was Based On True Events?
A report by The Fader states that in 2012, the singer filed a breach of contract and negligence lawsuit against Peter Gounis of Berdon LLP, her former accountant. The singer reported that Gounis’ improper advice on real estate resulted in the singer going from $11 million to $2 million in 2009!
The documents (via Fader) revealed that Rihanna Fenty was already in a bad financial condition and her accountant knew about this. Giving bad advice, the lawsuit claimed that MS. Fenty was bankrupt by the end of 2009.
“In 2009, Ms. Fenty was ‘running out of cash’ and Mr. Gounis knew this. Ms. Fenty’s accounts were so diminished that requested wire transfers would not go through. In fact, Ms. Fenty was effectively bankrupt at the end of 2009.”
As of 2024, Forbes reported that the singer has a net worth of $1.4 billion and she seems to be doing well. The Umbrella singer is currently associated with voicing the role of Smurfette in the upcoming The Smurfs Musical in 2025.
