George Lucas is undoubtedly one of the most renowned men in the world of pop culture. His Star Wars is not only a major IP out there but is also an emotion among several fans. When Star Wars: Episode VII-The Force Awakens was released, the 79-year-old creator of the space opera wasn’t hesitant to admit that it was nothing new. As it was the first movie under the Disney umbrella, the makers didn’t want George Lucas‘ involvement in the project and wanted to present something new for the fans. But the story bore a resemblance to the original Star Wars Trilogy.

Despite garnering extremely positive reviews and an enormous collection, George Lucas wasn’t pleased. Not only he but a certain section of fans also claimed that the movie lacked originality. This led Disney to take a different approach with the sequel directed by Rian Johnson. The Last Jedi was a controversial entry to the franchise. It was much appreciated by the critics who praised it for taking a different approach on the mythos but the same couldn’t be said for the hardcore fans and certain members of the cast who criticized the story.

But there was an aspect of the film that unified everyone who watched the Mark Hamill starrer was its beautiful cinematography and breathtaking shots. Looks like George Lucas was also captivated by it as his representative Connie Wethington commented to The Hollywood Reporter that the creator felt The Last Jedi was “beautifully made”. Only if he had commented something on the story, it would have been clearer which side of the audience he was on.

Even to date when Star Wars: Episode VIII is discussed, it raises quite a mixed reception. While it would be a lie to say that many are fans of the storyline and the creative takes, the visually stunning shots are a major aspect that is heavily praised. According to ardent admirers, the movie is quite average and many characters didn’t get the development they deserved accompanied by many logical plot holes.

We have collected a few tweets to show how the fans reacted to George Lucas’ comment on the $1.3 billion blockbuster.

Although the reviews were highly polarized, it’s nothing close to the concluding Star Wars: Episode IX- The Rise of Skywalker. It can’t be denied that the Sequel Trilogy ended with such an impact that the fans don’t even want to talk about it anymore. It was mercilessly trashed by all and even polarized the critics. Following that, we have only witnessed a spree of Disney+ projects in the name of Star Wars content. Now with a handful of projects in development, it will be interesting to see how a theatrical project works out for the franchise after such a major gap.
