Rashida Jones is a famous Hollywood celebrity and was also the prime cast for Hope van Dyne, the love interest of Ant-Man, played by Paul Rudd in MCU. But unfortunately, the role went to Evangeline Lilly, who interestingly did a fabulous job with the role. Jones gained much popularity by starring in the sit-com, The Office alongside John Krasinski, another actor to star in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In addition to her talented and versatile acting career, Rashida Jones is also a successful writer and producer. She has created and executive-produced several television shows in the industry. She is also a role model for young women of color as she is a very outspoken person about her support for diversity and inclusion in the entertainment industry.
Rashida Jones Was Supposed to Be a Major MCU Character
Rashida Jones was one of the actresses considered for the role of Hope van Dyne, a.k.a. The Wasp, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She was reportedly on the top of MCU’s shortlist due to her compatibility with other actors, as already proven multiple times in shows like The Office, including Paul Rudd, who was chosen to play Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man.
According to Screen Rant Rashida Jones was considered by the producers because of her past connection with the Ant-Man actor in the movie I Love You Man, where she took on the role of Rudd’s love interest. Although the reason she was passed up for the part has never been made public, some have conjectured that it may have been due to scheduling issues or a wish to avoid being stereotyped in superhero roles.
Regardless of the reason, it was definitely intriguing to consider how the MCU would have evolved if Jones had portrayed Hope van Dyne. She is a gifted and adaptable actor and would have been a great addition to both the role and the franchise. But Lilly also performed an outstanding job, and it is difficult to picture the MCU without her in the role of The Wasp.
John Krasinski’s Journey From The Office Into the MCU
The progress of John Krasinski from The Office to the MCU is evidence of his skill and adaptability as an actor. Although he is best known for playing the zany Jim Halpert in The Office, he has shown his versatility in several other roles, including those in the action thriller 13 Hours, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, and the horror/sci-fi movie, A Quiet Place and its sequel.
In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which was released in 2022, Krasinski makes his MCU debut as Reed Richards, also known as Mr. Fantastic. This was a dream job for Krasinski, who has loved the comic franchise and the Fantastic Four books since he was a little boy.
Fans were ecstatic when Krasinski was chosen to play Mr. Fantastic, and they were not let down. He played the part with compassion and intellect, fully capturing Reed Richards’ character. One of the movie’s great points was Krasinski’s performance, which made fans hungry to see more of him in the MCU.
