Henry Cavill, who plays Geralt of Rivia on Netflix’s The Witcher, has always been an outspoken supporter of using fans’ feedback to inform the show’s future. Not too long ago, Cavill gave an interview in which he explained his feelings about fan reactions, saying that he sees all of them as passion.
This devotion made fans criticize the show’s casting and direction even before the first season was available on Netflix.
Henry Cavill’s Passion for The Witcher Fans
Concerns that the show would go too far from the book were heightened when it was announced that Siri and Triss would not play their respective roles. However, Henry Cavill quickly addressed these concerns, claiming fans were passionate about the novels and wanted the show to stay faithful to the original material.
“I have always looked at fan reactions, whether they be fully supportive or negative or aggressive or whatever they may be, as passion. And if you have a forum to vent your passion on, then one will, Sure, some people may word it in a way which doesn’t make people feel great, but that’s okay. Passion is passion, man.”

Since the show’s inception, Cavill has been enthusiastic about following the source material as closely as possible. This is one of the main reasons he was originally set to appear in all seven seasons.
Henry Cavill Quits, Fans Speculate Reasons
In October 2022, Henry Cavill, however, made the tough decision to exit The Witcher. The actor also confirmed on Instagram that he has passed “the torch” on to Liam Hemsworth, who will take the lead in Season 4.
“I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men.”

Following his decision to quit, fans began speculating his reasons. Some speculated that his exit resulted from creative issues with the show’s producers, particularly concerning how key scenes were portrayed on television.
Insiders attest that Henry Cavill contemplated leaving the series during the second season due to conflicts with the producers. In an interview with NME, showrunner Lauren Hissrich suggested that creative disputes may have led to Cavill’s resignation.
“I do have a lot to say, and I think that there’s a lot of, you know… we’ll obviously never get into exactly why Henry left, all of the reasons, but I can say it’s been a mutually respectful relationship…”

It’s a bummer for fans who have become attached to Henry Cavill’s portrayal of Geralt throughout The Witcher’s first two seasons. With Liam Hemsworth stepping into the role in season four, it remains to be seen if fans will take to the new Geralt or pine for Cavill’s portrayal.
Regardless of the future, The Witcher fans will always remember Henry Cavill for his dedication to the source material and refusal to deviate from the book’s spirit. The Man of Steel actor may have left the show, but his portrayal of the character will live on in fans’ memories.
