Heather Graham confessed to feeling immense anxiety before filming her inaugural nude scene for the movie Boogie Nights in 1997. Paul Thomas Anderson’s Academy Award-nominated creation narrates the journey of Eddie Adams, an L.A. busboy portrayed by Mark Wahlberg, as he ascends to stardom in the adult film industry under the guidance of filmmaker Jack Horner, played by Burt Reynolds.

Heather Graham Shares Her Struggles With Boogie Nights

In a fresh conversation with Yahoo!, Heather Graham pondered her significant portrayals, notably Rollergirl, an adult performer recognized for her roller skate-embellished acts.

“That was my first time [doing a nude scene], and I was so nervous about it. But at that point in my career I was also like, ‘Beggars can’t be choosers,'” she recalled. “It was a great script and Paul was an amazing talent. I had a great time making that movie even though it was terrifying doing a n*de scene.”

While she didn’t explicitly address whether Mark Wahlberg shared similar apprehensions about on-screen n*dity, she did reveal that he utilized a prosthetic for his explicit frontal scenes in the movie. “He’s wearing a fake p*nis, so it’s not exactly the same,” Graham said.

Conquering her fears extended beyond that instance; embodying Rollergirl posed another challenge. Heather Graham undertook the task of mastering roller skating for the role.

Heather Graham recollected her experience, noting that her lack of roller skating skills upon landing the role demanded her to enroll in lessons. The process was somewhat nerve-wracking due to the presence of cables and obstacles on set. Adding to the amusement, her stand-in also had a few tumbles during filming.

Heather Graham Has A Fair Share Of Popular Roles

Having embarked on a career spanning decades, Heather Graham has graced the screens in well-received movies such as The Hangover and Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. However, in a recent revelation, she expressed a sentiment of being akin to a “supporting character” in an industry dominated by narratives centered around male protagonists.

“It’s still pretty sexist, to be honest. Every phase of the business, whether it’s financing, distribution, the reviewers, all those people are mostly men,” she recently told People. “To get a female driven story that is appealing mostly to women through all these levels of male dominated business, it’s not that easy.”

In 2018, Heather Graham marked her entry into directing with the romantic comedy Half Magic, featuring Angela Kinsey and Stephanie Beatriz. Building on this achievement, her second directorial endeavor titled “Chosen Family,” starring Julia Stiles, is slated to commence production later this year.

Boogie Nights can be streamed on Hulu.
