In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Affleck was asked, “So if DC came to you now and said, ‘Do you want to direct something?’

He responded, “I would not direct something for the [James] Gunn DC. Absolutely not,” Affleck told The Hollywood Reporter. “I have nothing against James Gunn. Nice guy, sure he’s going to do a great job. I just wouldn’t want to go in and direct in the way they’re doing that. I’m not interested in that.”

Speaking with THR, Affleck remarked on why Justice League ended up becoming a critical disaster.

You could teach a seminar on all the reasons why this is how not to do it. Ranging from production to bad decisions to horrible personal tragedy, and just ending with the most monstrous taste in my mouth. “

Justice League was the fifth-most expensive movie ever when it was released in 2017. Its $307 million budget made it the most expensive DC movie ever, while its global box office collection was $657 million.

James Gunn Claimed that Ben Affleck Wanted to Direct a DC Project

Who will take the helm of the biggest film in the franchise has been one of the many unanswered questions surrounding James Gunn‘s decision of the newly minted DCU. Given his connection with DC, Ben Affleck was predictably a name that many people instantly thought of.

Back in December, Gunn claimed that he had spoken with Affleck and both of them agreed that Affleck should be the director of a new project.

Gunn tweeted,

Met with Ben yesterday precisely because he wants to direct & we want him to direct; we just have to find the right project.”

However, the actor recently told The Hollywood Reporter that he’s done with DC. Thus, later it was confronted that Gunn was lying. He then responded by writing,

For years it’s been my commitment to the fans that I will never lie to them… and I never have. I’d be very curious about what it is you think I’ve lied about.

Contrary to what Gunn said, Affleck’s interview with THR makes it clear that he never expressed a desire to helm a movie under Gunn’s vision.
