Garner was moved by the surprise Barrymore gave her. The unexpectedness, however, did not end there. A “very meaningful” honor from her hometown of Charleston, West Virginia, was also presented to her by Barrymore.
“From here on out, April 17 will be known as Jennifer Garner Day in Charleston.”
The mayor of Charleston, Amy Goodwin, sent a video message to the stars to congratulate them on their success and to thank Garner for her “commitment to the arts, passion for West Virginia, and giving spirit.”
And that is just not it. A donation of $25,000 was made in Garner’s honor to Save the Children to help improve the lives of children in honor of her warm and giving nature. This gift, given in her name, reflects her generosity.

She even contacted Dave, who wrote the original novel, to express her interest in the role. Garner was so enthusiastic about the role that she went on a letter-writing campaign, explaining why she connected with the character so strongly and how she couldn’t imagine anyone else playing the role.
The show has received positive reviews for its suspenseful storyline and strong female characters. Dave, also an executive producer on the show, has hinted that there may be more for Hannah Michaels and her family.
“Now whenever I’m writing I see Jen’s face, which is a very nice face to see, but it makes me feel like Hannah’s story is not done.”
