The arrival of Skull and Bones hasn’t fared well with gamers, and there are many reasons for that. Other than the mixed reviews and judgments on the quality of the game itself, a big comparison with Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag has been made, and for good reason.
For the longest time, fans were waiting for either a sequel to the classic pirate game or a remaster or overhaul of the same. Instead, the community was led to believe that Skull and Bones would be the next ‘AAAA’ title that would not only bring back the glory days of pirate-led fantasies but also an industry-shaking experience.
According to Gamers, Skull and Bones Is No Match for What Black Flag Is Capable of
It may be 11 years since Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag came to us, but the comparisons are still uncanny. From the water physics to the player’s inability to swim, the new title may just be a very different game than what players were expecting.
Or, at least, wanted from a new pirate game. However, it seems like the developers wanted to try a new thing or two with the game, but the result of it may not be for everyone.
The series of disappointing comments and discussions around the new game’s arrival has mostly been a strong point in the community. Although, even those who aren’t necessarily the biggest fans of those games remember the older game to be one of the most phenomenal single-player experiences of the PS3 and Xbox 360 era.
Makers of the game even had the confidence to label the new game as ‘AAAA,‘ assuming that the experience would drastically affect the industry and other studios could learn a thing or two. Turns out, the mixed opinions surrounding the game are having a tough time even calling it a full-fledged triple-A experience.
Is There Hope for Skull and Bones?
If you’ve been the biggest fan of Black Flag, then it may be high time to accept that Skull and Bones is trying to be its own thing, and you’ll likely say, ‘no, thanks‘ to the new experience.
But, if you have the patience to put your faith in a live service game that has the potential for a casual getaway, then this may be worth your time. However, as the reviews and opinions have suggested, there are simply no comparisons fair enough that put the new title at par with Edward’s journey across the seas riddled with piracy.
There’s no solid storyline to back it up, neither are the ship-boarding or water physics doing any justice to what Black Flag did years ago.
